Spring-Ford’s Pascual and Schweitzer, Perkiomen Valley’s Singh and Pain reach PAC-10 boys tennis semifinals
The next Pioneer Athletic Conference boys tennis champion will come from either Perkiomen Valley or Spring-Ford.
That scenario was established Friday through the opening rounds of the league’s singles tournament.
The semifinal matches will pit PV’s Yashveer Singh and Spring-Ford’s Ryan Schweitzer, and the Vikings’ Luke Pain and the Rams’ Patrick Pascual. While Pascual and Pain were the tournament’s respective second and third seeds, Schweitzer was the fifth seed while Singh didn’t rank among the first eight.
Singh pulled off the biggest upset of the first day, topping top-seeded and defending champion Justin Baman of Methacton in the second round, 6-4, 6-3. He then posted another straight-set victory over Phoenxiville’s Bobby Newman, by identical 6-2 set scores.
The fifth-seeded Schweitzer advanced with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Owen J. Roberts’ fourth-seeded Utkarsh Pandey. Pain, the tourney’s third seed, topped Spring-Ford’s T.J. Cruikshank, 6-2, 6-2, in their quarterfinal while the second-seeded Pascual handled Methacton’s Max Schneider, 6-0, 6-2.Perkiomen School 4, Church Farm 1: A sweep of the singles bracket got the Panthers rolling toward their non-league victory.
The best individual showing for Perkiomen came at third singles, where Michael Pulcini posted a 6-2, 6-0 win over Omar Vincente.Wilson 7, Daniel Boone 0: The Bulldogs won all but one singles match in straight sets as they swept the Blazers in Berks Conference action.
The best individual showing for Boone came from Shafay Munir at fifth singles, who won his opening set with Dylan Rutt 6-2 before falling 6-4 and 10-8.
