Sun Valley busts skid against Kennett
Sun Valley’s 12-match losing streak was beginning to get a bit tiresome. So the Vanguards made sure it bit the dust Saturday.
Steve Okoorian, Anthony Oristaglio and James Pro scored three consecutive pins to cap a seven-bout winning streak for the Vanguards and seal a 46-31 Ches-Mont win over Kennett.
The streak started with Sean Donohue’s 12-2 decision at 126 pounds. Wins by forfeit bookended Alex Elliott’s win by fall at 138. Okoorian (152), Oristaglio (160) and Pro (170) recorded their pins at 2:33, 0:32 and 2:22, respectively, to provide the Vanguards (4-13, 2-4) an insurmountable lead.
In the Inter-Ac:
Germantown Academy 55, Haverford School 18: The Fords didn’t win a contested match against the Inter-Ac powerhouses, the closest they came to victory being heavyweight Chauncey Simmons’ overtime loss to Clifford David.
In nonleague action:
Haverford School 46, Cardinal O’Hara 28: The Lions won four of the seven contested bouts, but they couldn’t cope with the depth of the Fords.
O’Hara’s Dustin Sachetti (113), Michael Lewis (138) and Gaetano Simonelli (220) all won by fall, while Tyler Oliver scored a win by major decision at 126 pounds.
Haverford School surged ahead thanks to its middleweight prowess, with Jay Kober (145) and Rich Souders (152) scoring pins. Frederick Corradetti won by major decision at 120 pounds for the Fords.
Exeter 38, Interboro 27: Eric Thomas (130 pounds) and Eric Owens (220) scored pins, the latter in just 38 seconds, but the Bucs (12-10) came up short.
Omar Mercandante (138) and Steven Phillips (182) earned wins by decision.
DePhillipo keeps rolling: Bonner-Prendergast lost its three meets at the Inteboro Duals, but that didn’t stop 152-pounder Joe DePhillipo from register a trio of wins.
DePhillipo’s win by technical fall over Joey DiMarco represented the Friars’ only points in a 78-5 loss to Unionville. He scored a 7-1 decision in the Friars’ 66-15 loss to Coatesville, which stood alongside wins by forfeit for Tom Becker (195) and Liam Vogelman (106).
In a 42-29 loss to Lower Merion, DePhillipo won by technical fall in 1:22. Noah Center added a pin at 160 pounds.
