Boyertown wins two of three
The Boyertown Area High School boys’ basketball team won two of three games last week, including finishing third in the Boyertown Holiday Tournament. The Bears are 3-5 overall this season.
On Dec. 27, the Bears opened the holiday tournament with a game against Southern Lehigh. A big third quarter helped Southern Lehigh to a 78-59 victory.
The Bears took a 19-17 lead after one quarter, but Southern Lehigh led at halftime, 33-32. Lehigh opened the game up in the third quarter when it outscored the Bears, 28-12.
Ryan Corcoran led the Boyertown offense with 19 points in the game. Tyler Bauman was right behind him with 17 points while Kyle Dennin scored nine.
The loss sent the Bears to the consolation game Dec. 28 where they took on Governor Mifflin. The Boyertown offense was tough to stop in this game as it defeated the Mustangs, 76-60.
Leading by two after one quarter, the Bears outscored the Mustangs in the second quarter, 22-14, and the third quarter, 19-14.
Bauman had a big night for the Bears, scoring 34 points, including four three-point buckets. Corcoran netted 14 points and Christian Smith added eight. Dennin and Kevin McAteer each scored six points.
On Dec. 30, the Bears came home to take on Perkiomen Valley in a PAC-10 game. This one went to overtime but Bauman’s basket at the buzzer gave the Bears the victory, 57-55.
Dennin led the Boyertown offense with 18 points in the contest. Bauman canned 14 points and Smith scored 10.
