Coach: Ryan Hinkle, fourth season.
Last year’s record: 13-5 PAC-10, 16-7 overall.
Players to watch: Sean Moriarity, Sr., IF/OF; Trent Tyson, Sr., IF; Nate Yoder, Sr., 1B; Matt Szczesny, Jr., C.
Outlook: Look for PV to rely strongly upon its youth after losing a trio of graduating pitchers who provided a high-percentage of the team’s innings pitched last spring. … “This team will be as strong as the ability of juniors to step in and fill roles to help the team win,” Hinkle said. “PV looks to maintain a steady offense that produced runs effectively last season, but it will need to minimize the amount of defense errors throughout the season. Pitchers will need to step up and pitch with command effectively. A strong depth in pitching that extends to the sophomore and freshmen classes will give PV a boost. I look for PV to stay competitive in the PAC-10 throughout the season, and contend for a spot in the Final Four along with a good seeding come time for District 1 playoffs.”
