All-Delco Girls Basketball: Sweeney led Carroll on deep postseason run
In addition to Player of the Year Emily McAteer of Garnet Valley, the rest of the 2019 All-Delco team includes:
Erin Sweeney, Archbishop Carroll: The junior guard was outstanding during the Patriots’ run to the PIAA Class 5A championship game. The second-leading scorer in Delaware County averaged 18.2 points per game and was tied for first with 72 3-point field goals. She paced all Delaware County players with 537 points. The recent Drexel University commit scored 18 points to help the Patriots defeat Archbishop Wood for the Catholic League title. In the second round of the state tournament, Sweeney scored her 1,000th career point. She was selected to the All-Catholic League team. Her best single-game performance came when she dropped in 37 points to lead the Patriots to a win over West Catholic.
Maeve McCann, Bonner & Prendergast: The senior guard was the catalyst on a Pandas team that advanced to the PIAA Class 4A semifinal round for the second consecutive season and captured a District 12 title. She led the Pandas in scoring at 11.5 points per game. As one of the fastest players in the county, McCann played her best basketball of the season down the stretch during the Pandas’ playoff run. In the District 12 final and three PIAA tournament games, McCann averaged 16.3 points. McCann was named the Markward Club’s Catholic League Player of the Year and was selected to the All-Catholic League team. She will play at Jefferson University.
Brianne Borcky, Garnet Valley: The senior forward was a four-year starter throughout Garnet Valley’s school history-making era of three Central League titles, a District 1 Class 6A championship, and a trip to the PIAA final. Borcky’s height and tremendous athleticism enabled her to excel at all positions. Borcky averaged 10.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.0 steals per game. She scored 16 points to help Garnet Valley win its first District 1 title over Neshaminy. She finished her career with 1,207 points and was selected to play in the All-Star Labor Classic. She will continue her playing career at Drexel University. Said Garnet Valley coach Joe Woods: “Like Emily, Brianne was both a leader on and off the court in taking us to the championship game of the state tournament.”

Mandy McGurk, Notre Dame: A senior guard and two-time All-Delco selection, McGurk scored more than 1,000 points and guided the Irish to a 17-7 record this season. The University of Penn commit averaged 18.2 points, 2.4 assists and 2.4 steals per game and finished with 36 3-point field goals. She scored a season-high 29 points on two occasions. She was named First Team Inter-Ac League her junior and senior campaigns. McGurk earned the Markward Club Player of the Year honors in the Inter-Ac League.
Maggie Pina, Notre Dame: A senior guard, Pina flourished alongside McGurk after transferring from Archbishop Carroll prior to her junior season. She eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau a few weeks after McGurk reaching the milestone in January. She averaged 15.8 points per game, including a season-high 27 in a win over Penn Charter, and helped the Irish to the semifinal round of the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association tournament. The Boston University recruit averaged 1.9 assists and 2.0 steals per contest. Pina earned First Team All-Inter-Ac League her junior and senior years.
