In stacked PCL Red, Ryan hopes to stay competitive
Life’s tough when you’ve got defending PIAA Class 6A champion St. Joseph’s Prep and defending 5A state champion Archbishop Wood on the schedule every year, as well as powerhouse La Salle.
It’s not an easy life, but them’s the breaks in the PCL. If the Raiders are going to make some noise this year, they’ve got as good a returner as any with running back Jaye McNeil. According to TedSilary.com, McNeil ran for 1,180 yards in only eight games last year at a whopping 7.9 yards per carry, which means that coach Frank McArdle has a bell cow in his backfield to wear teams down. McNeil ran for more than 200 yards on three separate occasions, highlighted by a 262-yard day against Bonner-Prendergast. McNeil’s backup, Jason Jefferson, also returns and figures to improve on a 361-yard junior campaign.
On the defensive side of the ball, cornerback Kyron Long and safety Cameron Gontek return for Ryan. The duo combined for three interceptions last season. Ryan opens up at Bartram on Saturday afternoon.
