Sophomore quarterback Brody McAndrew weighs in at 6-3, 190 pounds. Head coach Steve Wilmot says he’s looked good this summer is 7-on-7 drills.
Neshaminy still team to beat SOL
While it’s true the Neshaminy High football team lost a lot of key components from last year’s monstrous 11-1 campaign, the Redskins remain the team to beat in the Suburban One National League.
With that in mind it’s quite possible Neshaminy’s record might not change all that much, although many of the games it won last year by blowout margins figure to be closer.
“We did lose some key guys, but so far it has looked good,” said coach Steve Wilmot. “The potential is there.”
Looking at the offense first, Neshaminy again figures to be formidable up front with Gio Figueroa and Nick Napadano returning to anchor an all-senior offensive line. That group alone will make the Skins tough to stop.
The tailback position will be handled by committee with seniors Mike Creszenzo and Joel Stills along with junior Savian Hebron all in the fold. Hebron is the son of former Philadelphia Eagle player Vaughn Hebron.
Sophomore Zach Magdalinskas is the starting fullback, while junior Cory Jones and senior Mike Garlick head up the receivers. The new quarterback is sophomore Brody McAndrew.
“We hope to establish a strong running game first and mix in the pass more as we go along,” said Wilmot. “Our offense looks good.”
So does Neshaminy’s defense, which returns five starters and will again be led by outstanding junior linebacker Oleh Manczyk. Other defensive returnees include Stills at corner back, Garlick at linebacker and junior Luke Hitchen at end.
“We like where we are at,” said Wilmot. “We have a ton of linemen.”
Unless a team can match Neshaminy up front, the Redskins will remain difficult to beat.
