Reporter/Times Herald Softball Roundup: Rowe’s walk-off HR in 9th lifts Pennbury over Souderton

Pennsbury 4, Souderton 2 (9) >> Jess Rowe hit a two-out, two-run walk-off home run in the ninth inning as Pennsbury bounced back from its first loss of the season to rally past Souderton for the Suburban One League nondivision victory Thursday.

The Indians took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first before the Falcons pulls even with a pair in the third.  It stayed that way until the bottom of the ninth. Cynthia Ehrenfeld hit a one-out single and her courtesy runner Ava Storlazzi stole second. After a pop out, Rowe connected on her winning two-run homer to center field.

Riley York was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored for Souderton (9-4, 3-2), which dropped its second straight. Megan Kummery finished 2-for-3.

Rowe went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored while Cait Martell was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Ainsley McClure struck out 11 in a complete-game win for the Falcons (8-1, 4-0 SOL Patriots). She allowed two runs – both earned on five hits and walked two. Souderton starting pitcher Abby Burns took the loss, giving up four  runs – all earned – on nine hits, walking one and striking out four in 8 2/3 innings.

York gave the Indians a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with an RBI then scored to double the advantage on Ryan Zimmerman’s RBI double to right. Martell made it 2-2 in the bottom of the third with a two-RBI single.

North Penn 5 Council Rock South 2 >> Mady Volpe struck out 16 in throwing a two-hit shutout and also drove in a pair of runs as North Penn claimed its third win in a row.

Volpe was 2-for-3 with a double while in the circle walked three, allowed Council Rock South just two singles – one in the second and another in the sixth – and struck out the side in both the fourth and seventh frames.

Annabelle Smink went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored while Bri Wilmot was 2-for-4 with a double and run scored for the Knights (9-1, 5-0).

Volpe put North Penn up 1-0 in the top of the first with an RBI single. South threatened in the third, loaded the bases with two out after a walk, hit batter and a walk but next batter lined out to first.

The Knights took a 3-0 in the fifth on a Julia Shearer RBI ground out and Smink RBI single. Carley DiGiuseppe’s RBI single in the sixth made it 4-0 while Volpe tacked on a fifth run in the seventh with her RBI double.

Upper Merion 11, Pottstown 0 (5) >> Ava DiDonato registered seven strikeouts in a five-inning no-hitter while Upper Merion plated seven runs in top of the third to pull away for the PAC Frontier Division win.

DiDonato, who also hit a two-RBI double in the third, retired the first 11 Pottstown batters she face before allowing her only baserunner on a two-out walk in the fourth.

Valentina Marino was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for the Vikings, who scored two runs in both the first and second then went up 11-0 with their seven spot in the third.

Cady Legerton went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored, Michele Maas had two RBIs and two runs scored while Vanessa Hutchinson scored two runs.

Upper Dublin 5, Upper Moreland 3 >> Upper Dublin built a 4-0 lead after three innings and held off Upper Moreland to pick up the win in the SOL nondivision matchup.

Lauren Carboni was 2-for-2 while Emeline Bell scored twice for the Cardinals (4-5, 1-4 SOL Liberty). Chloe Foster struck out nine and did not allow a walk in earning a complete-game victory, giving up three runs – one earned on five hits.

Grethen Wolpert’s put UD up 1-0 with a solo home run in the bottom of the first. Anna Levin hit an RBI single in the second with the Cardinals added two more in the third on a Brianna Kesslick RBI single and Dani Lucidi’s RBI fielder’s choice.

Haleigh Woodman put Upper Moreland (5-4, 4-0 SOL Freedom) on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth with a solo homer.  But Upper Dublin went back up four in the bottom of the inning as Bell – courtesy running for Carboni, who led off with a double, scoring on a Foster RBI groundout.

The Golden Bears pulled within 5-3 with two runs in the top of the seventh as Ava Bailey scored on an error and Liz Santry hit an RBI single.

Plymouth Whitemarsh 10, Springfield-Montco 0 (5) >> Carly Rosenberger was 3-for-4 with an RBI, run scored and a leadoff triple in the bottom of the first while Lauryn Kane gave up just one hit in throwing a five-inning shutout as Plymouth Whitemarsh rolled to its third straight shutout win.

Hannah Suh was 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored twice for the Colonials (6-5, 2-3 SOL Liberty), who scored three runs in first, third and fifth and added a run in the fourth.

Molly Moore had two walks, two run scored and capped the SOL crossover with a two-RBI walk-off double in the bottom of the fifth. Emily Caffrey finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Kane walked five and struck out four.

Anna Posluszny got the lone hit for Springfield (1-7, 1-4 SOL Freedom) as she singled with one out in the fourth.

Hatboro-Horsham 22, Cheltenham 0 (3) >> Megan Mills threw a three-inning no-hitter and also collected 5 RBIs as Hatboro-Horsham cruised to a win to remain undefeated.

Mills struck out six and did not walk a batter – the only baserunner for Cheltenham (1-7, 0-3 SOL Freedom) coming via a two-out error in the bottom of the second. Mills also scored a pair of runs for the Hatters (8-0, 4-0 SOL Liberty), who led 8-0 after the first inning then plated 10 runs in the second.

HH’s Alyssa Tooley was 2-for-2 with a walk, double, two RBI and three runs scored while Abby Waeltz had a double, three RBIs and two runs scored while Amya Lundy collected two RBIs.

Marissa Rapino hit a double and scored four runs, Olivia Baltzer had three runs scored while Tess Kearney and Kayla Tauber both scored twice.

Abington 22, New Hope-Solebury 4 (5) >> Anessa Rorher and Lauren Everitt both hit home runs and finished with four RBIs as a big day by Abington’s bats sent the Galloping Ghosts to a second straight win.

Rorher also tripled as she went 4-for-5 with three runs scored. She gave Abington a 1-0 lead with a solo homer in the top of the first. Everitt, who connected on a two-run homer in the third to make it 5-0, went 4-for-5 with three runs scored.

After scoring a run in each of the first two innings, the Ghosts (3-5, 0-4 SOL Liberty) plated nine in the third for an 11-0 lead. Abington added two runs in the fourth then tacked on another nine in the fourth. New Hope-Solebury (2-7, 2-2 SOL Freedom) scored all four of its runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Leanna Schenk went 3-for-4 with a double, triple, three RBIs and two runs scored while Jess Sokolski was 4-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored.

Madison Cornell finished 3-for-5 with a double, RBI and scored twice, Mackenzie Marcotte was 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run and Bella Oquendo doubled, collected two RBIs and scored a run.

Neshaminy 12 Pennridge 2 (6) >> Pennridge scored twice in the top of the fourth to get within 3-2 but Neshaminy pulled away with five in the fifth and four more in the sixth to win the SOL nondivision matchup.

Kylee Jones was 2-for-3 with pair of doubles, three RBIs and a run scored while Kennedie Ruth gave up just one hit and struck out seven in a complete-game victory and at the plate had a triple, two walks, two RBIs and two runs scored.

The Rams (3-8, 1-4 SOL Colonial) got their two runs after loaded the bases with no outs in its half of the fourth, Madison Silber bring in the first with an RBI single while Caitlyn Thursh scored on a wild pitch with two outs.

In the bottom of the fifth, Neshaminy (6-3, 4-1 SOL Patriot) loaded the bases with one out and plated runs on a hit by pitch, a walk then three more coming home after an Amanda Slabicki double to left.

Neshaminy finished things in the bottom of the sixth with a Jones two-RBI double, Darby Brant’s RBI single and a walk-off RBI sacrifice fly from Michelle Baradziej.

Slabicki was 2-for-4 with three RBIs for Neshaminy, who scored twice in the second and once in the third to go up 3-0. Brandt went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored, Mia Barrone was 2-for-3 with a double and scored three runs and Kylie Siwek had two runs scored.

Grace Helbing posted Pennridge’s lone hit with a single in the fourth as the Rams lost their fourth straight.
