Cowley pitches, hits Marple past Lower Merion

Rachel Cowley had quite a day Wednesday for Marple Newtown.

The junior pitcher shut down and shut out Lower Merion, going the seven-inning distance with six strikeouts and scattering but three hits as the Tigers defeated the Aces 4-0.

Cowley was involved at the plate, too. She had two doubles and knocked home a pair of runs.

Brianna Kelly chipped in a triple and also had two RBIs for the Tigers, while Makenzie Murrin added two hits, as Marple improved to 7-4 on the season.

In other Central League games:

Garnet Valley 15, Strath Haven 1 >> Winning pitcher Becca Halford had plenty of run support in this one.

Audrey Shenk had three hits and two RBIs, while Kelly McLaughlin and Lindsey Hunt each had three doubles and a pair of RBIs as the Jaguars cruised.

Annie Bechtold had three hits and Diane Torregrossa added two hits for the Jags, while the Panthers’ Ella Kane doubled to knock in their lone run.

Ridley 7, Penncrest 3 >> Madison Chapman helped her pitching cause with a home run, and she struck out six in picking up the win. Mollie Reese added a two-run homer for the Green Raiders while Ashley Shanks, Anissa Miller and Sammy Williams had two hits each.

For Penncrest, Melody Gleason had three hits and Eliana Guerrieri added a pair.

Upper Darby 20, Harriton 3 >> Rylee Shanahan had a triple and double and Nora Zakrewski and Lexi Witmer chipped in three hits each as the Royals rolled.

Haverford 15, Radnor 2 >> Tess Smiley blasted a grand slam and Amber Moscoe was 2-for-2 with a triple and three runs scored to lead the Fords over the Raiders.

In the Bicentennial:

Lower Moreland 11, Christian Academy 4 >> Grace Gormley’s long home run to center field was a highlight, but TCA couldn’t keep up with LM. It was Gormley’s seventh homer of the season.

Alyssa Mastella went the distance in the loss for TCA.
