Haverford breaks out the bats in season opener

Haverfords erupted for eight runs in the fourth inning and never looked back in cruising to an 11-1 season-opening victory over Central League foe Lower Merion.

All-Delco Heather Lazer led the way by going 4-for-4 with a single, two doubles, a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored. Lindsay Moran went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a pair of runs scored, and Sheila O’Donnell laced a two-run triple.

Brenna McCandless scattered three hits over five innings while striking out two for the win.

Conestoga 6, Ridley 4 >> Down five runs in the seventh, the Green Raiders battled back to cut the deficit to two, but couldn’t get any closer. Leigh Ann Jenkins, who struck out eight, belted a three-run homer and Sam Williams legged out a triple for Ridley.

Harriton 7, Strath Haven 5 >> Junior pitcher Malia Calciano had a double and two RBIs for the Panthers. Sophie Bolinger also contributed a two-base hit.

In the Catholic League:

Cardinal O’Hara 15, Neumann-Goretti 0 >> Jenna Smith pitched a three-inning no-hitter and helped her cause with two hits, including a triple, and three RBIs. All-Delco Annemarie Banes went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Sami Randazzo had a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Danielle Bradley chipped in with two hits and a pair of runs.

Conwell-Egan 4, Bonner & Prendergast 2 >> The Pandas scored single runs in the second and third innings to grab a 2-0 lead, but the host Eagles plated three in the bottom of the third and tacked on an insurance run in the sixth.

Kerri Quinn and Molly McNulty hit back-to-back doubles and Meghan Sullivan added a sacrifice fly for the Pandas (3-2, 0-1).

In the Bicentennial League:

Christian Academy 12, Morrisville 2 >> Bejah Burley-Chambers collected three hits and Grace Gormley doubled twice with three RBIs for the Crusaders (2-1, 2-1).
