Bristol softball looking for sixth straight District 1 crown

FALLS TWP. – Bristol moved one step closer to a sixth consecutive District 1 championship with an 8-0 triumph over The Christian Academy in the D-1 semifinal matchup Tuesday afternoon (May 31) at Pennsbury.

Out to a 2-0 lead on sophomore Cara Fabiano’s two-run single to right-centerfield in the bottom of the first inning, the Lady Warriors hung on until the bats came alive in the fifth and sixth innings.

Meanwhile, in the circle for Bristol was junior righthander Bryanna Vearling, who kept the fourth-seeded Crusaders (15-2) off balance, striking out 11 batters without walking any in seven innings of work.

Junior catcher Tianna Brewington started a 3-run rally in the fifth inning off with a walk, stole second and third base before reaching home on a double steal in which senior shortstop Desiree Franchitti was caught in a rundown between first and second.

Fabiano followed with a double, went to third base on a grounder by junior first baseman Jade Stevens then came home along with Vearling on a two-run single by freshman right fielder Hailey Sweeney.

Brewington also had a double for the Warriors, who added three unearned runs in the sixth.

Still unbeaten on the season at 18-0, Bristol goes up against No. 3 seed Calvary Christian in the District 1 Class A championship game slated for 4 p.m. Thursday (June 2) back at Pennsbury.

The Warriors beat Calvary Christian 17-2 in last year’s D-1 semifinal before crushing Friends Select 16-0 in the district title tilt.
