The Reporter/Times Herald/Montgomery Media Local Roundup (Sept.30): CB West’s Lynn wins SOL girls golf title

SOL Championships >> Central Bucks West’s Abby Lynn won the SOL Girls golf title with a 72 on Wednesday at Five Ponds, holding off Central Bucks South’s Emma Reilly by one stroke. Other locals qualifying for districts were PW’s Rhianna Gooneratne (75), North Penn’s Hayley Ekert (82), Pennridge’s Taryn Shine (82), Upper Dublin’s Talia Hoffner (83), Wissahickon’s Bella May (84), Souderton’s Alexandra Engart (85), Springfield-Montco’s Mollie Young (87) and North Penn’s Camryn Lampitoc (95).

North Penn’s Velaga on the rise >> Esha Velaga, a junior on North Penn, won the SOL Colonial title last weekend. After getting a bye in the first round, Velaga went on to defeat Central Bucks East’s Elizabeth Wilson, CB East’s Kayenna Ponamgi and defending champ soph Souderton’s Amanda Yang. Velaga started playing tennis at age 5 and is ranked nationally in the USTA. She is currently competing in the District 1-3A Singles Tournament this weekend as the No. 1 seed.

Spring-Ford 7, Pope John Paul II 0 >> The Rams lost just four games in coasting to the PAC win on Thursday. Spring-Ford’s singles players Mia Matriccino, Isabel Mejia and Cady Krause each didn’t lose a game.

Souderton 6, Pennsbury 0 >> The Indians scored three goals in each half and rolled to the win on Thursday. Joe Sirchia led the scoring with two goals, while Ryan Schewe, Ty Quintois, Brandon Fornwall and Pary Kumar also scored for Souderton. Aidan McClure and Roman Sigafoos combined for the shutout in net for Souderton.

Plymouth Whitemarsh 4, Springfield Montco 3 >> Brendan Corpus scored twice as the Colonials picked up the SOL crossover win on Thursday. Connor McBride and Jake Clatterbuck also scored for PW. Grant Williams, Peter Schmidt and Riley Martin scored for the Spartans.

Methacton 4, Pope John Paul II 2 >> Ben Rubinich and Ben Bosio scored for the Golden Panthers in a losing effort on Thursday.

Plymouth Whitemarsh 4, Springfield Montco 2 >> Fiona Gooneratne set up the game-winner, added a goal and the Colonials used a strong first half to pick up the SOL crossover win on Thursday. Ella Clark, Abby Boegner and Liv Reilly also scored goals with Boegner delivering the game-winner. Devyn Cohen in her first varsity start picked up an assist.

Upper Dublin 3, Upper Moreland (OT) >> The Cards took a 2-0 lead before the undermanned Golden Bears came storming back to tie it up. Geena Sarnoski scored on a rebound in the 89th minute as the Cards survived. Alexandra Devers and Erin Seabrook gave Upper Dublin a 2-0 halftime advantage, but the Golden Bears stormed back in the second half wih goals from Kyra Favors and Mallory Roedig.

Pennsbury 2, Souderton 1 >> After a scoreless first half, the Indians fell behind 2-0 in the second half and couldn’t recover until Avery Nogami scored on Thursday.

Abington 6, New Hope-Solebury 0 >> Carley Slavin delivered the first hat trick of the season as the Ghosts won big on Monday in SOL crossover action. Harper McGinley, Caroline Hughes and Maddie Egan also scored for Abington.

Wissahickon 4, Lower Moreland 2 >> Kylie Friedman collected a hat trick and Margaret Wilde added one more on Thursday in an SOL crossover win.

Methacton 5, Pope John Paul II 1 >> Kirsten O’Brien scored two goals as the Warriors jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead and picked up the win on Thursday. Kendall Ricca and Mia Chan also scored goals for the Warriors, while O’Brien also picked up two assists for Methacton (8-2-1).

Wissahickon 7, Lower Moreland 0 >> Seven different Trojans scored goals in a dominant win on Thursday. Avery Mullin, Kendall Crowley and Brynne Miller started the scoring in the first quarter with Ella Hummel picking up two assists and Sophia Havrilla one. Caroline Kirkpatrick scored the lone goal in the second quarter for a 4-0 halftime lead. Kayla Pak, Havrilla and Riley Ball finished off the scoring in the second half.

North Penn 5, Council Rock South 1 >> After a scoreless first quarter, Madison Waldspurger took over the second quarter with a pair of goals, while Grace McGeehan added another for a 3-0 halftime advantage. Erin O’Donnell and Riley O’Donnell added goals for the final margin of victory. Waldspurger and Catherine McGeehan picked up assists. Kiera Holt and Mackenzie Czajkowski combined for six saves in net for NP (5-3).

Methacton 2, Pope John Paul II 1 >> Bayla Plower scored two goals to pace Methacton in PAC action on Thursday. Cate Mink scored the lone goal for PJP II. Giana Manza made 15 saves in net for PJP, while Gabby DiPrinzio had four saves for Methacton.

Dock Mennonite 6, Plumstead Christian 0 >> Olivia Zaskoda scored a goal and added three assists as the Pioneers won going away in BAL play on Thursday. Celeste Derstine, Sadie Bernd, Ainsley Moyer (2) and Olivia Veltre also scored for the Pioneers (7-3, 7-0).

Souderton 3, Central Bucks South 2 >> After dropping the first two sets, the Indians rallied for a 19-25, 23-25, 25-18, 25-15 and 15-13 thriller on Thursday. Standing out for Souderton were Alyssa Reiner (15 kills, 3 aces, 13 digs, 2 blocks), Teya McConaha (15 kills, 3 digs, 4 blocks), Alli Sauerwald (5 kills, 4 aces, 4 digs) and Nikki Hamilton (40 assists, 3 aces, 4 digs).

Upper Merion 3, Phoenixville 0 >> The Vikings swept to the PAC win by scores of 25-12, 25-19 and 25-10. Vanessa Hutchinson had 23 digs and 13 service points (6 aces). Caitlyn Daywalt and Raven Albrecht shared 16 service points, 24 assists and 10 digs. Julie Giammarco had an ace among her 14 service points, while Sydney Bright had six blocks to go with her three kills. Sophia Schweikert added 20 kills for the Vikings (7-2).
