Reporter/Times Herald Roundup (Sept. 21): North Penn girls volleyball sweeps Souderton

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

North Penn 3, Souderton 0 >> Charlotte Patterson finished with 24 assists, nine digs, four kills and three aces as North Penn rallied from a 16-8 deficit to win the first set then took the next two for a 31-29, 25-14, 25-17 SOL Continental victory.

Kate Hanley had 13 kills and six aces for the Knights. Kiley McTaggert added nine kills, nine digs and four aces while libero Leila Eid made 28 digs.

For Souderton, Nikki Hamilton collected 15 assists and seven digs while Alyssa Reiner had nine kills, two digs and an ace. Alex Mazzeo had nine digs, three aces, two assists, Alli Sauerwald posted five kills, four digs and three aces while Teya McConaha had two blocks and a kill.

Hatboro-Horsham 3, Cheltenham 0 >> Jade Lauzier recorded 10 of Hatboro-Horsham’s 33 aces as the Hatters earned a 25-8, 25-10, 25-13 SOL American win.

Julie Reilly had with seven aces to go with 13 assists for the HH (4-0, 3-0 conference) while Abigail Kosmalski, Ava Santo and Emma O’Reilly each registered four aces.

Kayla Jones put down nine kills on 11 kills with Cassidy Hudson adding three kills.

Upper Merion 3, Owen J. Roberts 0 >> Sophia Schweikert was superb for Upper Merion in a PAC sweep, finishing with 21 kills, 23 digs and three aces in a 25-22, 25-10, 25-17 win.

Vanessa Hutchinson had 26 digs and four aces for the Vikings (5-2, 5-1 league). Caitlyn Daywalt collected 23 assists.

Council Rock South 3, Methacton 1 >> Methacton’s Mandy Baldwin made 10 kills while Meg Haftl had 21 assists as the Warriors lost the nonleague match 25-15, 25-23, 13-25, 26-24 to fall to 1-4 (0-2 PAC).

FIELD HOCKEY

Wissahickon 2, Upper Dublin 0 >> Kate Lovensheimer assisted on both goals as Wissahickon stayed undefeated with an SOL Liberty victory.

Ella Hummel gave the Trojans a 1-0 lead at 4:30 in the first quarter while Riley Ball scored to double the advantage with 55 seconds left in the third quarter.

Goalkeeper Dara Fishman made 18 saves for Upper Dublin while Wissahickon goalie Alli Wood had seven saves.

Dock Mennonite 8, Delco Christian 2 >> Celeste Derstine had a hat trick – scoring the game’s first three goals and Dock Mennonite led 5-0 after a quarter – and also handed out two assists as the Pioneers picked up a BAL win.

Olivia Zaskoda had two goals for Dock (5-1-0, 5-0-0 league). Sarah Curry, Ainsley Moyer and Sadie Bernd all added a goal while Erin Miler collected an assist.

Dock got five saves from goalies Haley Harper (four) and Aubrey Gahman (one) while Delco Christian keeper Therese Olive made 15 saves.

Jenkintown 2, Bristol 0 >> Jenkintown shut out Bristol for a road BAL win.

GIRLS SOCCER

Gwynedd Mercy 5, Merion Mercy 2 >> Riley Morris scored twice – finding the back of the net once in each half – as Gwynedd Mercy tallied the first five goals to beat Merion Mercy in the AACA matchup.

Hannah Griffin, Lauren Drakley and Sabrina Beniquez each added a goal for the Monarchs. Halle Coller assisted on Drakeley’s goal.

Hannah Mishinkash and Lindsey Lyons both had a goal for Merion Mercy.

GMA goalie Ellie Verrill had two saves while Merion Mercy’s Jennifer McMonagle made 11 saves.

Methacton 1, Phoenixville 0 >> Kirsten O’Brien scored the PAC contest’s lone goal off an Aubrey Beaugard assist while Mairi Smith made three saves in post a shutout as the Warriors improved to 5-2-1.

Phoenixville goalie Ella Stout had eight saves.

BOYS SOCCER

Dock Mennonite 8, VFMA 0 >> Sean Gillespie scored 45 seconds into the game as Dock Mennonite went into halftime up 6-0 and rolled to a shutout win over Valley Forge Military Academy.

Cameron LeSeur had two goals, putting the Pioneers (2-1-2) up 2-0 off a Nolan Vaszily assist then collecting his second to make it 7-0 at 48:17.

Gillespie, John O’Donnell, Trevor Ridge and Alex DiPietro all finished with a goal and an assist while Benjamin German and Aidan Jurin both had a goal.

Spring-Ford 1, Pope John Paul II 0 >> Dylan Smith converted a penalty kick in the second half as Spring-Ford edged Pope John Paul II for a PAC victory.

PJP II goalkeeper Dylan Russ made eight saves. Rams keeper Eric Moriarity had four saves.

GOLF

Central Bucks West 196, North Penn 221 >> Kevin Lydon shot a 37, Alex Feraco finished with a 39 and Central Bucks West claimed an SOL Colonial victory at Doylestown Country Club.

Jack Quinn added a 40 for the Bucks while North Penn was led by Haley Ekert and Connor Toussaint, who both shot 41.

Methacton 205, Pope John Paul II 208 >> Methacton’s Colin Meyer shot a match-low 39 as the Warriors picked up a PAC win.

Matthew Rieger finished with a 40 for the Warriors. Ryan McQuarrin and Nick Togno both posted 41s to lead Pope John Paul II.

Springfield-Montco 219, Upper Moreland 223 >> Ethan Shore paced Springfield with a 5-over par 40 at Sandy Run County Club as the Spartans claimed a SOL Freedom Division win.

Upper Moreland’s Bo Meakim led all golfers with a 2-over 37.

GIRLS TENNIS

Wissahickon 7, Hatboro-Horsham 0 >> Ella Chang at first singles and Wissahickon’s first and second doubles teams all won 6-0, 6-0 as the Trojans earned an SOL Liberty sweep.
