Mercury Roundup (11.3): Hull sends Pope John Paul II past Phoenixville

Pope John Paul II 1, Phoenixville 0 >> Julia Hull’s second-half score, and Hailey Bond’s seven saves sent No. 4 seed PJP past the No. 5 Phantoms in Tuesday’s District 1-3A opener.

Lainey Owens assisted on Hull’s score. Ella Stout made eight saves for the Phantoms in the two teams’ fourth meeting of the season.

PJP will travel to top seed Villa Joseph Marie, a 2-0 winner over Upper Perkiomen, on Thursday.

Quakertown 2, Boyertown 1 >> Morgan Sipprell and Callie Abel tallied goals as Quakertown took down the Bears in a non-league match Tuesday.

Alina Friz tallied Boyrtown’s goal.

Field hockey

Neshaminy 2, Owen J. Roberts 1 (2OT) >> OJR’s goal with 25 seconds left advanced the No. 14 Wildcats into overtime, but No. 3 Neshaminy came out on top of Tuesday’s District 1-3A first round game. Neshaminy will face No. 7 seed Methacton in Thursday’s District 1-3A quarterfinals.

Gwynedd Mercy 10, Phoenixville 2 >> Third-seeded Gwynedd knocked out the sixth-seeded Phantoms on Tuesday in the first round of the District 1-2A tournament. Aubrie Breisblatt and Julia Grosso scored for Phoenixville.
