Miller, Ley kickstart O’Hara offense in win over Bonner & Prendie

It did not take Ellie Miller and Makalia Ley long to kick start the Cardinal O’Hara offense Monday night.

Miller scored in the 16th minute and Ley found the back of the net four minutes later to propel the Lions to a 6-0 victory over Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergast in the play-in round of the Catholic League girls soccer playoffs.

The win earns seventh-seeded O’Hara a quarterfinal date at second-seeded Lansdale Catholic Thursday.

Marissa Lobb gave O’Hara a 3-0 lead at halftime and the Lions weren’t done. Julia Stellabotte added a goal in the second half and Sara Buinno tallied twice to close out the scoring. Goalie Kerry Patterson made one save to record the shutout.

Kellie Cuirran made 14 saves in goal for the Pandas.

In the Central League:

Strath Haven 2, Springfield 1 >> Maggie Forbes used her head to lift the Panthers over the Cougars.

Forbes headed home a pair of corner kicks from Danielle McNeely, the first in the 34th minute and then again two minutes later, to stake Strath Haven (13-2-1, 8-1-1) to a 2-0 halftime lead. Goalie Claire Wolgast had three saves to get the win.

Erin Gormley spoiled the shutout bid in the 52nd minute, while keeper Shannon Cutcliff has seven saves for the Cougars.

Garnet Valley 1, Radnor 0 >> Alyssa Wert bound the back of the next from 28 yards out off a pass from Regan Nealon 8 minutes, 49 seconds into the second overtime period to win it for the Jaguars. Kayleigh Saboja made four saves to turn in the clean sheet, while Haley Williams stood out on defense.

Anna Gurlan and Katie Bell shared the goalkeeping duties for Radnor.

Penncrest 1, Harriton 0 >> Sarah Hughes scored in the first three minutes and goalie Bryn McLaughlin made it stand up as the winner.

In the Bicentennial League:

Christian Academy 4, Delco Christian 0 >> Grace Gormley tallied twice and dished out one assist to give the Crusaders their second straight win.

Alyssa Skaer also scored, while Erin Guy had two assists. Jordie Harvey made seven saves to record the shutout.

In the Del Val League:

Interboro 3, Penn Wood 2 >> Isabella Brutch, Gianna Frangelli and Faith Sabre tallied one goal each to lift the Bucs (8-7) over the Patriots. Goalie Kayla Droxler made six saves to get the win.

Awa Dicko had both goals for the Patriots, while Matoima Kanneh stopped 15 shots in goal to keep it close.

In the Ches-Mont League

Bishop Shanahan 3, Sun Valley 1 >> Chiara Robinson spoiled the shutout bid with a goal in the second half for the Vanguards. Goalie Kyra Green stopped eight shots.

Alina McLaughlin scored all three goals for the Eagles.

In nonleague action:

Ridley 7, Chichester 0 >> Six of the goals were scored by seniors on senior night. Andrea Pezick led the way with two. Danielle Simister, Rylie Butler, Anna Charitonchisk and Kayle Smith added one goal each in their final home game for the Green Raiders. Dale Zimmerman was the only non-senior with a goal.

Sydney Zimmerman and Shannen Hinchey made one save each for the shutout.
