Whitaker breaks Ridley’s resolve as Springfield leaves it late

For 70-plus minutes, Ridley’s Sydney Zimmerman kept the Green Raiders in the game with her 10 saves.

But Bridget Whitaker finally broke the deadlock with five minutes left, scoring the penalty-kick goal that led Springfield to a 1-0 Central League win.

Molly Ryan made three saves to post the clean sheet (8-4, 4-2).

Also in the Central League:

Garnet Valley 2, Marple Newtown 0 >> Jenna Buttermore and Alex Zecca scored in the first half as the Jaguars (5-4-1, 2-2-1) prevailed.

Halle Robinson made nine saves for Marple.

Strath Haven 4, Radnor 0 >> Maddie Forbes and Lizzie King each accounted for a goal and an assist as the Panthers (7-1-1, 5-0-1) cruised.

Penncrest 6, Upper Darby 0 >> Logan Morris and Corryn Gamber scored twice each, and Bryn McLaughlin stopped the only shot to come her way as the Lions (8-0-2, 4-0-2) eased to victory.

Conestoga 2, Haverford 1 >> The Fords’ Brianna Blair nodded home a corner kick, but Caitlin Donovan’s two goals helped the Pioneers remain unbeaten in the league.

In the Inter-Ac League:

Episcopal Academy 2, Baldwin 0 >> Molly O’Brien set up Anna Salvucci to score off a corner in the first half, then O’Brien found the back of the net after the break for EA (7-2, 3-0). Morgan Messner stopped all three shots for the shutout.

Springside Chestnut Hill 1, Notre Dame 0 >> Caroline O’Keefe made 12 saves, but Grace Rorke’s first-half goal spelled doom for the Irish (3-3-3, 0-1-1).

In the Bicentennial League:

Delco Christian 1, MaST Charter 0 >> Alex Thompson scored off a feed from Elizabeth Daley to lift the Knights (2-5, 2-3).

Lower Moreland 3, Christian Academy 0 >> Madison Dutton made 12 saves, but the Crusaders (5-2, 2-2) fell.

In nonleague action:

Chichester 2, Interboro 0 >> Monigo Karnley scored the opener and set up Cameron Keith’s insurance marker, and Zaira Ford stopped a pair of shots for the Eagles (2-7).

Interboro’s Faith Sahre accumulated five saves.
