Freshman Maddie O’Brien was in the right place at the right time to help Notre Dame snap a five-game losing streak and pick up its first Inter-Ac League girls soccer win of the season.
O’Brien collected a loose ball in the six-yard box and found the right side of the goal with three minutes remaining in the game to give the Irish a 1-0 victory over Agnes Irwin.
Goalkeeper Lucy Van Kula made three saves and Claire Nappi anchored a strong defensive effort by the Irish (4-7-0, 1-4-0 Inter-Ac.
Elsewhere in the Inter-Ac League:
Episcopal Academy 3, Germantown Academy 2 >> Jess Shanahan tallied twice and Molly O’Brien once to help the Churchwomen (7-3-2, 4-0-1) remain unbeaten in the league.
In the Bicentennial League:
Delco Christian 4, Calvary Christian 0 >> Jessica Freeman put home a pass from her sister Jillian to ignite a three-goal explosion in the first half for the Knights (6-8, 5-2). Alex Thompson added one goal and two assists, while
Faith Warmhold (two saves) and Ronnie Marie Falasco (three saves) teamed up on the shutout.
In nonleague action:
Christian Academy 4, Ridley 3 >> Laura Plummer anchored a strong that pitched a shutout after the Green Raiders scored three times in the first half and fed Grace Cryan for the winning six minutes into overtime.
Cryan scored the final three goals after Grace Gormley got the Crusaders (10-2-1) on the board in the first half. Micah Schiavo, Sam Najmola and Alyana Pezick scored for Ridley.
Radnor 0, Bishop Shanahan 0 >> Alexa Soloman turned in a clean sheet with three saves as the Raiders battled the Eagles to a double overtime draw.
Springfield 2, Interboro 0 >> Bridget Whitaker and Olivia Little scored on either side of halftime as the Cougars ended the season on a high note.
