West comes to O’Hara’s rescue in overtime

Cardinal O’Hara threw everything it could at Paris Banks in the second half and the Bonner-Prendergast goalkeeper was equal to the task.

It took extra time for the Lions to put out the victory.

Jenny West scored three minutes into overtime to lift the Lions to a 2-1 victory over the Pandas. It was West’s second goal of the game. She gave O’Hara a 1-0 lead midway through the first half, but the lead was short lived.

Meghan Campbell scored off a corner just before halftime to forge a 1-1 deadlock. Banks, who had had 16 saves, kept it that way until West found the back of the net early in the overtime.

In other Catholic League action:

Archbishop Wood 2, Archbishop Carroll 1 >> Sofia Filippo’s two-goal night for Archbishop Wood proved too much for Carroll (4-8-1, 3-6-1) to overcome, as her winning tally with 15 minutes left to play ultimately sealed it. Paige Mastripolito scored Carroll’s lone tally, while Grace Gallagher and Clair Boylan combined for 11 saves.
Bella Sorrentino picked up an assist, while Nikki Romondo, Juliet Rossetti, Mandi Rafanello and Meghan Matey turned in solid efforts on their senior night.

In nonleague action:

Delco Christian 4, Franklin Towne Charter 3 >> For the second half of Delaware County Christian’s nonleague tilt with Franklin Towne Charter, Faith Warmhold made the most of a chance to play in the field instead of her usual spot in front of goal, drawing a late penalty kick for Jessica Freeman that helped seal the Knights’ win.
Warmhold and Ronnie Marie-Falasco, who replaced the Knights’ starting goalie after halftime, combined for seven saves, while Becca Lange, Carly Fox-Hoven and Alex Thompson scored the first three goals for the Knights (4-8). Brenna Richards and Jillian Freeman also picked up an assist apiece.
In other nonleague action:
Ridley 2, Interboro 0 >> Corner-kick scores from Micah Schiavo and Sam Najmola through the game’s first 15 minutes proved to be more than enough, as Lisa Gale shut the door with four saves in net to help the Green Raiders (5-10) blank Interboro. Sarah Hurley and Abby Graeff picked up assists for Ridley, while freshman sweeper Danielle Simister helped keep the Bucs’ attack at bay.
Garnet Valley 2, Kennett 0 >> Madison Ireland and Julia Burnel gave Kennett fits out of the gate with their pass-and-move ability on attack, as they each scored once and assisted the other before halftime to lead the Jaguars on senior night. Ashley Bufano stopped three shots in net for the Jaguars (6-4-4), who honored seven seniors as part of the festivities.
