Ella Springer scored with four minutes to play to lift Agnes Irwin to a 9-8 nonleague girls lacrosse triumph over Archbishop Carroll to snap the Patriots’ 33-game winning streak.
The Owls rallied from a 6-3 halftime deficit to hand the Patriots their first loss since the 2021 season. The Patriots went 24-0 last season en route to their second straight PIAA Class 2A title.
Mairyn Dwyer led AIS with four goals, five ground balls, four draw controls and two assists. Hunter Fleitas pitched in with two goals. Caroline Chisholm added one goal, two assists, two caused turnovers, two ground balls and one draw control. Goalie Maggie Mullen came up with eight saves.
Ava Bleckley led Carroll with four goals. Chloe Bleckley and Sam Hewitt pitched in with two goals each.
In the Central League:
Garnet Valley 16, Ridley 4 >> Mia Zebley powered the Jaguars with four goals, three caused turnovers, two draw controls and one ground ball. Mia Raucci contributed three goals, two caused turnovers and one ground ball. Maddie Shoemaker also scored three times and had three ground balls.
Conestoga 18, Strath Haven 10 >> Kate Galica led the Pioneers with seven goals. Julia Steer topped Strath Haven with three goals and two assists. Kaitlin Nieczpiel also scored three times and Laura Conner had two goals and two assists.
Springfield 12, Upper Darby 0 >> Goalies Geena Augello and Maddy McBride combined on the shutout. Devin Buggy led a balanced offense with two goals and two assists. Erin DeStefano (one assist), Allie Hunter (one assist) and Maddie Kane chipped in with two goals each.
In the Catholic League:
Archbishop Wood 10, Bonner & Prendergast 5 >> Abigail Blemings tallied twice and Leila George scored the 100th goal of her career for the Pandas.
Cardinal O’Hara 12, Lansdale Catholic 8 >> Maddie Sharkey paired five goals with three draw controls and two ground balls to lead the Lions. Claire Natoli added four goals, eight caused turnovers, four draw controls and four ground balls. Carley Smith contributed one goal and three assists.
In the Ches-Mont League:
W.C. East 7, Sun Valley 5 >> Alena Catka collected two goals and seven draw controls for the Vanguards. Lainey Chesnut added two assists, while Luci Damico, Riley Basht and Riley Purfield chipped in with one goal each.
Baseball
Jake Van Horn came to the rescue to preserve Radnor’s wild 15-14 Central League victory over Penncrest.
The Raptors jumped out to a 15-2 lead in the fourth inning only to see the Lions roar back with 12 unanswered runs and have the tying and winning runs at second and third base with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. Van Horn got a strikeout and fly out to end the threat.
Teddy Monahan went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Kyle Miltenberger also drove in three runs for the Raptors, while Zach Fein went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Kris Farnan, Nico Tozzi and Gavin Brown drove in two runs each for Penncrest.
Strath Haven 3, Harriton 2 >> Sam Milligan slugged a pair of homers to account for all the runs for the Panthers. He drilled a two-run homer in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game, then a walk-off solo shot to win it in the ninth.
Winning pitcher Luke D’Ancona and Alex Pak combined on 19 strikeouts.
In the Bicentennial League:
Delco Christian 17, Church Farm 5 >> Pete Certo tossed a 10-strikeout, four-hitter to get the win for the Knights. Caleb Jameson ripped a three-run double and drove in six runs. Beau Lyren added two hits, three RBIs and three runs scored.
In the Del Val League:
Interboro 17, Academy Park 2 >> Nate Mowbray (2.1 innings) and Shane West (1.2) combined on a no-hitter with eight strikeouts. West also had a multi-hit game, as did Evan Thomas.
Andrew Barbera drove in three runs for the Bucs.
Softball
Riley Signor had two doubles and a walk, was hit by a pitch and scored four runs to lift Penncrest to a 12-1 Central League victory over Radnor in a game that took four days to complete.
The game started Monday and was stopped by rain in the third inning with the Lions leading, 2-1. Maggie Allison also had two hits, a walk and two runs scored. Hayden Campbell and Genny Lilly scored twice in support of winning pitcher Bridget Gavin.
A day earlier Allison and Ansley Kauffman drove in one run each to lead the Lions to a 2-1 triumph over Harriton.
Audrey Rubenstein had two hits including a triple for the Raptors.
Springfield 14, Harriton 4 >> For the Cougars, Payton Feeney went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and one run scored, and Skyler Poehner was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Kayla Frye (two runs scored), Ally Heston (run scored) and Nikki Morrison added two hits and two RBIs each.
In the Ches-Mont League Wednesday:
Sun Valley 8, Great Valley 0 >> Jordyn Skarren fanned 12 to get the win. Abby Gawne (three RBIs) and McKenna Ogurko powered the offense with three hits each.
Boys Tennis
Matteo Torres and Josh Baston swept first and second singles without losing a game to help Chichester win the Del Val League title with a 5-0 victory over Academy Park. Torres topped Jacob Krautheim, 6-0, 6-0 at first singles and Baston defeated Jonathan Page, 6-0, 6-0 at second singles.
In the Central League:
Penncrest 4, Strath Haven 3 >> Brady Huggett and Flynn Hollinger set the tone with straight sets wins at first and second singles, respectively. Kevin Zhu and Timothy John, and Benjamin Liebman and Josh Rogers won at first and third doubles for the Lions.
Rhys Makai (third singles), Andrew Deppen and Will Hall (second doubles) and Eddie Gbhardt and Ted Dudley (fourth doubles) were the winners for Strath Haven.
Harriton 7, Haverford 0 >> Freshmen Valentyne Sukhyy and Sean Ayers got off to a strong start at second doubles for the Fords before dropping a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Aaron Lutz and Alex Kettenbaum. Owen Borowiak, Nathanael Ghez and Ray Me took singles in straight sets for the Rams.
Lower Merion 6, Garnet Valley 1 >> Ashrith Settivari beat Ones Tuhenya, 6-1, 6-0, at first singles for the Jaguars.
