Being a player down for the final four-plus minutes of the first half and the entire second half was no problem for Archbishop Carroll Friday afternoon.
The Patriots still had enough to open the season with a 12-5 victory over Cardinal O’Hara.
Carroll was forced to play short-handed after picking up its fourth card of the game with roughly 4:30 to play in the first half. The Patriots responded by pitching a shutout the rest of the way and adding four more goals in the second half.
Julia Basciano led the offense with four goals. Kiley Mottice added three goals. Keri Barnett had two goals, and goalie Sophie Kevtan made 11 saves.
Ellie Miller scored all five goals for the Lions.
In the Ches-Mont League:
Oxford 16, Sun Valley 5 >> Tali Carotenuto paced the Vanguards with three goals. Maya Trader and Carli Komorowski added a one goal each.
In nonleague action:
Haverford 19, W.C. East 13 >> Emma Rowland started her season with five goals and one assist. Izzy McGarvey also had a big day with three goals and three assists. Jackie Heinerichs and Grace Hetznecker pitched in with three goals and one assist each for the Fords.
Upper Darby 13, Bonner-Prendergast 7 >> Olivia Pierucci topped the Royals with four goals. Erin Colsher added three goals. Curran Penot tallied twice and goalie Moira Penot made 19 saves.
Conestoga 16, Agnes Irwin 10 >> Kate Galica led the way for the Pioneers with five goals, three assists, nine draw controls, three ground balls and five caused turnovers. Rachel Clark added four goals, four assist and four draw controls.
Cate Parcells topped the Owls with four goals. Brynn Ammerman added two goals and one assist, while Sydney Wilson chipped in with two goals.
Henderson 12, Ridley 10 >> Emily Liberio powered the Green Raiders with five goals, while Abby Axe tallied twice.
Olivia Justice and Delaney Turner led Henderson with three goals each.
