Agnes Irwin’s Brynn Ammerman is Main Line Girls Athlete of the Week

Brynn Ammerman

The sophomore attack played a key role in the Owls’ 3-1 record during Spring Break (two of the games were against teams that are in the top 25 nationally), scoring four goals against Holton Arms and tallying three goals and five assists against Myers Park. As of April 1, she leads the Owls with 16 assists. A fine all-around athlete, she also plays soccer for Agnes Irwin. Ammerman comes from an athletic family – her two older brothers, Riley and Ryan, played lacrosse and football for Malvern Prep – Ryan went on to play football at Penn State then University of Delaware, graduating last year, and Riley currently plays football for the University of New Hampshire.

Q: What was the key to your productive scoring during Spring Break?

A: The key was teamwork and fast ball movement. With these factors and Coach [Lauren] Wray’s encouragement, we increased our odds of scoring.

Q: What was your most memorable experience during the team’s trip to Washington, DC and Charlotte, N.C. during Spring Break?

A: My most memorable moment was definitely at the US National Whitewater Center. Here our team took part in a high ropes course as well as whitewater rafting. Heights are my biggest fear and with the help of my teammates I was able to push myself to the end. It was one of the scariest and most funniest moments of my life all wrapped into one.

Q: What aspect of your game did you work on most during the off-season?

A: I worked mostly on my stick skills, focusing on my shooting.

Q: What originally attracted you to lacrosse?

A: I started playing lacrosse when I was 7 years old. My older brother had played the sport and I would always find myself in the backyard playing with his stick.

Q: Briefly describe for us your pre-game preparation (physical, mental) on the day of a game.

A: Every game is different but my pre-game preparation remains the same. A lot of my ritual is simply superstitions. Such as braiding my hair with the same hair tie as well as tieing each shoe with three knots.

Q: You wear jersey No. 5 – is there a reason you picked this number – does it have any special significance to you?

A: I’ve always chosen my numbers based off my brothers’ lucky numbers growing up, but I wanted to have my own. A number I could use for the rest of high school. So this year, I decided to stick with 5.

Q: What is your favorite school subject? Is there a career field that particularly interests you at the present time?

A: My favorite school subject is math. I do not have any specifics relating to my career, but I am leaning towards the health and science fields.
