Pezick’s ground ball leads to Stratton’s winner for Ridley

Defender Andrea Pezick was in the right place at the right time for Ridley Thursday.

Pezick pick up a ground ball and that possession enabled Corrine Stratton to score the winning goal with 56 seconds left to give the Green Raiders a 13-12 Central League girls lacrosse victory over Penncrest.

Pezick’s ground ball wound up in the stick of Anna Charitonchick, who found Stratton for the winner.

Stratton led Ridley with five goals and two assists. Haley Adams tallied four times, and Sydney Zimmerman pitched in with three goals and two assists.

Kenna Kaut and Mia George had three goals and one assist each for the Lions. Abby Pennoni also recorded a hat trick for Penncrest.

Elsewhere in the Central League: 

Conestoga 9, Radnor 8 >> Emme Bucher fired home the winning goal with 1:26. It was Bucher’s second goal of the game and snapped an 8-8 deadlock. Cam Evitts tallied five times for the Pioneers.

Kate Hartnett scored twice for Radnor in a game that featured several ties and lead changes. Cate Cox added one goal and three assists. Ellie Mueller had one goal and seven draw controls.

Harriton 13, Garnet Valley 11 >> Alison Schwab, Emily Stewart and Katelin Williams scored three goals each as the Rams (3-0) held off the defending District 1 Class 3A champion Jaguars.

Regan Nealon had six goals and two draw controls, and Caroline Shaefer added three goals and one assist for GV.

Springfield 14, Marple Newtown 3 >> Belle Mastropietro and Erin Gormley powered the attack with four goals each. Alyssa Long and Julie Schickling chipped in with two goals each for the Cougars.

Kaely Cristello, Page Kostodk and Eva Fay netted one goal each for Marple Newtown.

Strath Haven 18, Lower Merion 7 >> Olivia Memenger paced a balanced attack with four goals and four assists. Gillian Brennan added four goals and one assist. Danielle McNeely also scored four time for the Panthers.

In the Ches-Mont League:

Avon Grove 21, Sun Valley 8 >> Delaney Ashworth scored five times and the Devils jumped out to a 16-4 halftime lead and never looked back.

Freshman Allceia Whitfield led the Vanguards with four goals and one assist. Abby Seasock added two goals and Tali Carotenuto pitched in with one goal and one assist.

In nonleague action:

Lawrenceville 12, Archbishop Carroll 6 >> The Patriots tied the game early in the second half, but the Big Red responded with four unanswered goals to put the game away.

Madison Henry led the Patriots with three goals. Kellie Ann Matey added two goals and one assist.
