Presenting 2016 All-Main Line girls lacrosse teams

The Main Line high school girls’ lacrosse scene this spring featured a number of championship squads. In the Central League, Conestoga (24-1) captured its first-ever PIAA state title and Radnor (20-6) won the PIAA District One championship.
Episcopal Academy (23-5) captured the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Tournament championship, while Agnes Irwin (19-5 overall, 11-1 InterAc) captured its second consecutive outright InterAc title. Merion Mercy Academy won the AACA title.
Archbishop Carroll (18-4) was Catholic League and District 12 champions, while Friends’ Central (11-9 overall, 9-0 FSL) was Friends Schools League champion once again, for the sixth time in the last seven years.
The All-Main Line high school girls’ lacrosse teams are selected by the coaches. The Main Line Media News sports staff limits the number of sports available to first team, second team and honorable mention – but follows the priority of the coaches’ selections. What follows are the 2016 All-Main Line high school girls’ lacrosse teams:
FIRST TEAM
Caroline Allen, Academy of Notre Dame – Senior midfielder was US lacrosse All-American and first team All-InterAc selection. Scored 61 goals, won 71 draw controls, got 43 ground balls, dished out 24 assists and caused 13 turnovers. Will be playing lacrosse for Cornell.
Kate White, Agnes Irwin – Senior defender is a two-time All-American and a first team All-InterAc and All-Delco pick. A four-time All-Inter-Ac League honoree and named to the Under Armour All-Star Team, the Dartmouth recruit ended her career with 153 ground balls, 188 draw controls, 157 caused turnovers and 33 goals.
Laura Pansini, Agnes Irwin – Senior attacker is a two-time All-American and a first team All-InterAc pick. Is the Agnes Irwin record holder for career points (328) despite missing her sophomore season with an ACL tear. The Princeton-bound senior posted 69 goals and 50 assists as the Owls captured their third straight Inter-Ac title.
Emily Fryer, Agnes Irwin – Senior midfielder/defender, an All-American and a first team All-InterAc pick, provided a wide variety of skills at midfielder, with 259 career draw controls as well as 195 ground balls, 73 caused turnovers, 50 goals and 42 assists. Headed for Brown University.
Lila Barker, Agnes Irwin – Junior midfielder, an All-American and a first team All-InterAc pick, scored 70 goals, won 32 draw controls and dished out 22 assists this spring. The University of Virginia commit has 184 goals for her career as well as 63 assists and 54 caused turnovers.
Samantha Swart, Archbishop Carroll – Junior middie, the MVP of the Catholic League and an All-American, scored 50 goals. Is committed to playing lacrosse for Syracuse University.
Megahan Matey, Archbishop Carroll – Senior attacker, a first team All-Catholic League pick, was Patriots’ co-MVP along with Samantha Swart. Scored 29 goals, and is headed to Ohio State to play lacrosse.
Liz Scott, Conestoga – Junior midfielder, the Central League’s MVP and a two-time All-American, won 134 draw controls, scored 53 goals and caused 20 turnovers. Was MVP of Pioneers’ midfield.
Monica Borzillo, Conestoga – Senior attack, a first team All-American as well as first team All-Central League and the MVP of the Pioneers’ attack, scored 79 goals, dished out a school record 109 assists and caused 29 turnovers.
Sondra Dickey, Conestoga – Senior midfielder and co-captain, a first team All-American and All-Central pick and the Pioneers’ overall MVP, scored 69 goals, won 75 draw controls, scooped up 32 ground balls and caused 26 turnovers.
Jules Horning, Conestoga – Senior goalie and co-captain, an Academic All-American as well as a first team All-Chesco pick and an All-Central League performer, was a rock in goal for the state champion Pioneers.
Julia Hondros, Episcopal Academy – Senior midfielder and co-captain, a first team All-American and All-InterAc pick, was the Churchwomens’ MVP, scoring 60 goals, winning a school-record 113 draw controls and causing 24 turnovers. Academic All-American is headed for Brown University.
Colby Gallagher, Episcopal Academy – Senior midfielder/defender and co-captain, a first team All-InterAc selection, was the Churchwomens’ Defensive MVP, tallying 25 goals, winning 48 draw controls, scooping up 38 ground balls and causing 27 turnovers.
Katie Crager, Episcopal Academy – Sophomore attack, a first team All-InterAc selection, scored a school record 73 goals, won 28 draw controls, getting 20 ground balls and causing 10 turnovers. Committed to Georgetown University.
Jesse Rubin, Friends’ Central – Senior midfielder and captain is a two-time US Lacrosse All-American and Academic All-American, was 2016 PASLA Student-Athlete of the Year, finished her Friends’ Central career with a school-record 222 assists and 395 points (third all-time on the school’s list). Dished out 102 assists and scored 72 goals this season.
Laura Winters, Haverford High – Junior attack/midfielder, a first team All-Central League pick, tallied 62 goals and dished out 41 assists. Also scooped up 32 ground balls and caused 13 turnovers. Is committed to the United States Naval Academy. Noted for her potency around the crease, her work ethic and intelligence on the field and off.
Jess Mellon, Haverford High – Senior attack/midfielder and co-captain, an All-American and a first team All-Central League pick, was the Fords’ MVP. Tallied 52 goals, scooped up 38 ground balls and caused 23 turnovers. Noted for her prowess around the goal circle and on the draw, she was the quarterback of the team’s offensive unit.
Alex Ladda, Harriton – Senior midfielder and co-captain was selected US lacrosse All-American and Academic All-American for the second straight year as well as All-Central first team for the second consecutive year. Was the Rams’ leading goal scorer with 63 goals and finished her Harriton career with nearly 200 goals. Will be playing for Lehigh University next year.
Laura Lasprogata, Harriton – Senior attacker and co-captain, a first team All-Central League selection, scored 56 goals and dished out 18 assists. Score nine goals against Ridley in the PIAA Distict One playoffs. Will be playing lacrosse and field hockey for Saint Joseph’s University.
Caroline Steller, Merion Mercy Academy – Junior attack/middie was voted the Most Valuable Player of the Athletic Association of Catholic Academies, scoring 57 goals and dishing out 46 assists. A member of the All-PASLA team, she was the Golden Bears’ offensive MVP.
Fallon Quinn, Radnor – Senior midfielder, an All-American, Academic All-American and first team All-Central League and All-Delco selection, led the Red Raiders in draws (74), turnovers (34) and ground balls (68), while scoring 36 goals and dishing out nine assists. Will continue her career at Columbia.
Abby Lord, Radnor – Senior defender and co-captain, an All-American, Academic All-American and first team All-Central League and All-Delco selection, was valued for her strong all-around play and leadership. She will play lacrosse at the University of Richmond.
Audrey Fantazzia, Villa Maria Academy – Junior midfielder, the MVP of a solid Hurricane squad (11-8 won-loss record), scored 54 goals, dished out 24 assists and contributed strong defense (numerous ground balls and caused turnovers) as well as successful draw controls.
