Robinson’s clutch 3-pointer seals win for Marple Newtown

Halle Robinson drilled a clutch 3-pointer late in the game to help the host club ice a 41-35 victory over  Phoenixville at the Marple Newtown Holiday Tournament.

Robinson finished with 10 points and Olivia Young contributed eight for the Tigers (2-7), who snapped a six-game slide.

MN hosts Bishop Shanahan in a rematch of last year’s tournament final Tuesday at 3:30.

At the Garnet Valley Varsity Club Tournament:

Garnet Valley 70, Academy Park 37 >> Maddie Ireland broke out for 25 points, five steals and five assists. The senior guard is 15 points shy of 1,000.

Brianne Borcky (eight points) and Sydney Fail (seven) excelled on defense for the Jags (7-1), who outscored the Knights, 27-9, in the opening quarter. Elisha Hernandez scored a team-high 11 points for Academy Park.

Garnet Valley plays Henderson for the championship Tuesday at 6:30.

At the Interboro Christmas Tournament:

Bartram 28, Interboro 26 >> Sydney Barrow (17 points) made the game-winning basket with 2.3 seconds left to lift Bartram to a stunning win over the hosts.

Gina McNamee paced the Bucs with a team-leading eight points.

Penncrest 42, Sun Valley 35 >> Katie Russo poured in 19 points and Meg Arndt chipped in 11 to pace the Lions. Kate Lannon netted 19 points in the losing effort.

Penncrest plays Bartram in the final Tuesday at 7:30.

At the Daytona Beach Sunshine Classic:

Bonner-Prendergast 59, Umatilla 6 >> Maggie McPeak scored 16 points and Meghan Sullivan paired eight points with eight rebounds for the Pandas (5-0). Caroline Manfre supplied 10 points in the rout.

At the Boardwalk Classic:

Penn Charter 45, Haverford 39 >> The Fords charged back by from a 15-point deficit after three quarters with 20 points in the final stanza, but fell short in the championship game in the Genny Farnan-Robinson Bracket.

Mollie Reynolds powered the Fords (5-4) with 13 points, five rebounds and two assists, while Brianna Blair tossed in 10 points.

At the Downingtown West Tournament:

Notre Dame 56, Downingtown West 22 >> Caitlin Clark (seven points, six assists, three steals) and Mandy McGurk (seven points, four assists and two steals) paced a balanced attack by the Irish (7-1), who won their seventh in a row. Notre Dame plays C.B. South in the final Tuesday at 7:30.

At the Over The River Holiday Classic:

New Hope-Solebury 31, Christian Academy 22 >> The Crusaders blanked the Lions, 12-0, in the fourth quarter, but early struggles from the floor led to their third loss of the year. Lindsay Haseltine had a team-high nine points for TCA (6-3).

At the Carolina Invitational:

Northwood 51, Archbishop Carroll 50 >> Bella Sorrentino netted a game-high 15 points and Lexi Kucia poured in 14 points, but the Patriots couldn’t slip past their Maryland-based opponent.

At the Jenkintown/Robert Hopf Holiday Tournament:

Upper Moreland 30, Sacred Heart 26 >> Eileen Piombino had nine of her team-high 15 points in the third quarter, but her performance wasn’t enough for the Lions (2-9).
