Reporter/Times Herald Basketball (Feb. 17): Dock Mennonite boys sweep doubleheader; PW girls clinch outright SOL Liberty title

The Dock Mennonite boys basketball team earned the rare two wins in one night Wednesday as the Pioneers swept a home doubleheader, first topping Chester Charter 61-45 then besting MaST Charter 62-51.

Steve Martin scored 25 points in the opener, which had Dock (9-3, 7-0 BAL) build a 34-22 halftime lead. Chester Charter cut the margin to eight at the end of the third but the Pioneers outscored the Sabers 21-14 in the fourth.

In the second game, Hoyt Bultje paced Dock with 17 points as the Pioneers jumped out to a 26-15 lead after a quarter and went to earn their fifth straight victory.

Archbishop Wood 79, Roman Catholic 69 >> Archbishop Wood’s Rahsool Diggins scored 14 of his team-best 20 points in the first half as the Vikings built a 40-25 lead after two quarters then held off Roman Catholic to stay undefeated.

Daeshon Shepherd added 19 points for Wood (6-0, 6-0 PCL) while Muneer Newtown collected 10 of his 18 points in the third.

Xzayvier Brown scored 17 of his game-high 21 points in the second half for Roman (4-1, 4-1). Khalil Farmer finished with 20 points, nine coming in the fourth.

Upper Dublin 62, Penn Wood 56 >> Drew Stover scored nine of his game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter as Upper Dublin erased a five-point halftime deficit to win its fourth straight.

Seaton Kukla collected 10 of his 13 points in the second half for the Cardinals (9-5, 5-4 SOL Liberty).

Sayo Kenneth led Penn Wood with 12 points with Abdullah Dublin posting 11 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Plymouth Whitemarsh 69, Hatboro-Horsham 26 >>  Abby Sharpe led all scorers with 17 points as Plymouth Whitemarsh cruised past Hatboro-Horsham to claim the outright SOL Liberty Division title.

Kaitlyn Flanagan finished with 13 points with Anna McTamney tallying 10 points for the Colonials (12-0, 9-0), who won their fourth outright SOL division/conference title in the past five years. PW won the SOL American Conference in 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2019-2020.

Upper Moreland 66, Cheltenham 29 >> Upper Moreland made 11 3- pointers – four by Kiera Coyle – as it rolled to a third straight win in the SOL Freedom Division contest.

Holly Gohl paced the Golden Bears (11-2, 8-1) with 18 points, Coyle finished with 14 points while EmmyFaith Wood chipped in 11 points as UM led 35-20 at halftime them outscored Cheltenham 20-3 in the third.

For the Panthers (1-8, 1-7), Umayrah Sulayman scored 12 of her game-high 19 points in the first half.

Dock Mennonite 47, Coventry Christian 18 >> Dock Mennonite’s Kenzie Derstine and Belinda Leisner combined for 29 points as the Pioneers outscored Coventry Christian 27-5 in the second half.
