North Penn completes 3-game sweep of CB West

BENSALEM >> The Central Bucks West girls basketball team has four losses against Suburban One League Continental Conference opponents this season. Three of those losses have come against North Penn.

Monday night’s loss – which crowned the Maidens the Suburban One League Playoff Tournament champs – was the closest one yet, a 48-47 decision in overtime.

The first meeting in December saw North Penn handle the Bucks relatively easily, winning the game 63-51. In that game, North Penn had a very balanced attack with four different girls scoring in double figures.

The second game in January was a much closer contest. CB West dominated the first half of that game and entered the break with a 15-point lead. North Penn controlled the second half and topped a game Bucks team, 49-46.

It’s fitting that the third game – for the championship – was the closest.

Similar to the second game, North Penn got off to a slow start. The Maidens trailed by six, 14-8, after the first quarter and could not get much going offensively. They exploded in the second and third quarters, outscoring the Bucks by 14, 28-14.

The fourth was another weak spot for the Maidens, tallying only four points.

In the extra session, however, North Penn did just enough to tally the win and stay perfect against its league rival.

The Maidens, who went undefeated against the entire SOL Continental this year, are the top seed in the District One AAAA playoffs that start Friday. CB West is the No. 10 seed. If the teams meet for a fourth time, it would have even bigger implications than the previous three games.
