Mercury Roundup (Jan. 18): Owen J. Roberts’ Richards, Upper Merion’s Evitts set records

BOYS SWIMMING

Owen J. Roberts 97, Methacton 70

Highlights: Logan Richards and Colin Davis were factors in five races that helped the Wildcats swim away from the Warriors in Tuesday’s PAC meet.

Richards set team and pool records in the 500 freestyle, in addition to swimming the anchor leg of Owen J’s winning 200 free relay. Davis won the 50 free and 100 free while swimming another leg of the 200 free relay.

Upper Merion 93, Phoenixville 80

Highlights: Jack Larkin was part of three wins for the Vikings in Tuesday’s PAC meet with the Phantoms.

Larkin headed the 200 free and 500 free in addition to swimming the anchor leg of UM’s first-place 200 free relay. Paul Florio gave Phoenixville firsts in the 200 IM and 100 breast.

GIRLS SWIMMING SUMS

Owen J. Roberts 97, Methacton 84

Highlights: Eliana Crew figured on four first-place finishes as the Wildcats outswam the Warriors in their PAC meet Tuesday.

While winning the 100 free, Crew also swam legs of OJR’s three winning relays: Thd 200 medley, 200 free and 400 free. Natalie Spencer added a pair of firsts in the 50 free and 100 fly and swimming on Roberts’ 200 medley.

Phoenixville 97, Upper Merion 86

Highlights: Maddy Deeney and Kenzie Padilla contributed to a combined four wins for the Phantoms in Tuesday’s PAC meet with the Vikings.

Deeney (200 free, 100 breast) and Padilla (200 IM, 100 fly) won pairs of individual races as well as being part of Phoenixville’s winning 200 medley and 200 free relays. Kaitlyn Miller was big for UM, scoring firsts in the 500 free and 100 back before swimming the anchor leg of her team’s 400 free relay. Ashley Evitts earned a 279.85 points, an Upper Merion school record.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Upper Merion 51, Pottstown 38

Highlights: The Trojans couldn’t capitalize on Trinell Watson’s offensive outburst in Tuesday’s PAC Frontier Division loss to the Vikings.

Watson continued her big scoring for Pottstown with 27 points, nine of them coming off buckets from 3-point range. UM countered with more offensive balance in freshman Devon Maiden (12) and Riley Anderson (11).

Phoenixville 45, Pottsgrove 14

Highlights: Neveah Latimore-Beasley and her game-high 12 points keyed the Phantoms in Tuesday’s PAC Frontier Division romp over the Falcons.

Aaliyah Freeman did the bulk of Pottsgrove’s scoring with 10 points.

Owen J. Roberts 54, Boyertown 28

Highlights: Avery White hit for a game-high 20 points in leading the Wildcats past the Bears Tuesday.

Gabbi Koury chipped in with another 14 points as Owen J. opened a 24-6 lead in the first half.

Highlights: The Warriors racked up their ninth straight victory Tuesday, riding a big first-half offense to victory over the Eagles in PAC Liberty Division play.

Nicole Timko hit for a game-high 17 points as Methacton (6-0, 11-1) opened a 37-13 halftime advantage. Norristown got a team-high 12 points from Ryan Morse.

Spring-Ford 54, Perkiomen Valle7 39

Highlights: Anna Azzara and Mac Petinelli produced double-figure scoring efforts that keyed the Rams’ PAC Liberty Division win over the Vikings.

Azzara had a game-high 15 points while Pettinelli added 12. For PV, Quinn Boettinger scored 10.

Highlights: Caroline Reedy scored 16 points to lead the Saints (6-0 Berks I, 13-2) over the Blazers in Berks League play.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Boyertown 60, Owen J. Roberts 55

Highlights: Eddie Higgins won the individual scoring battle, and the Bears prevailed in team scoring during Tuesday’s PAC Liberty Division game with the Wildcats.

Higgins came away with a game-high 27 points, one more than OJR’s Tyler Rossi. Boyertown held on for the win even as the Wildcats poured in 31 points in the fourth quarter to cut down their hosts’ 40-24 lead through three quarters.

Highlights: The Phantoms jumped out to a 10-point lead in the first quarter and never looked back in Tuesday’s PAC Frontier win. Zavier Mayo led the way with 14 points, and Gabe Massenburg added another 12. Manny Allen scored 11 for the Falcons.
