Mercury Roundup (Dec. 30): Boyertown extends win streak to eight

Boyertown 44, North Penn 35 >> The Bears reeled off their eighth straight victory Monday behind Tre Diguglielmo’s 20-point night. He added seven boards as the Bears marked their longest win streak since 1976.

Aarick Salata was Boyertown’s only other double-figure scorer as the Bears used a stout defensive effort to pick up the non-league win.

Spring-Ford 64, Pottsgrove 34 >> Zack Skrocki paced the Rams with 13 points in the a one-sided Pioneer Athletic Conference Crossover victory.

Michael Fitzgerald followed with 11, Tre Medearis added 10 and Jake Kressley chipped in nine. Zion Dyches led the Falcons with nine. James Thompson scored eight.

Fair Lawn 66, Phoenixville 46 >> The Phantoms were unable to recover from a slow start Sunday, outrun by Fair Lawn in the Wildwood Boardwalk Classic’s Crest Savings Bank championship game.

Steven Hamilton and Clay Kopko each scored nine points to lead Phoenixville, which trailed Fair Lawn 22-7 after one quarter. Kopko also led the team with three assists, and Kade Breisblatt headed its rebounding efforts by clearing six boards.

Girls Basketball

Spring-Ford 70, Pottsgrove 47 >> In a matchup of two division front runners, the Rams got the better in Monday’s PAC Crossover action.

Lucy Olsen poured in 29 points, knocking down four of Spring-Ford’s nine 3-point shots. Emily Tiffan had 11, knocking down two threes, and Hailey Hudak scored nine for the Rams. Syndey Mowery led Pottsgrove with 13 points (7-for-8 FT), while Rachel Ludwig joined her double figures with 11.

Souderton 39, Pope John Paul II 24 >> Mikaela Reese’s 19 points led the way in Souderton’s non-league win over PJP Monday. Amelia Kennedy led PJP scorers with nine points in the low-scoring affair.

Owen J. Roberts 54, Iowa (La.) 17 >> Owen J. Roberts finished off its stay at the KSA Universal Holiday Tournament with a 2-1 record after a win Saturday against the opponent from Louisiana.

Olivia Leclaire led OJR with 19 points and made the all-tournament team as she totaled 47 points in the Wildcats’ three games. Avery White added 13 in the win.

Winter track

TFCAGP >> The Boyertown boys made a strong showing in The Robert J Burdette Indoor Classic held this weekend at Lehigh University’s Rauch Fieldhouse, winning two relays, finishing fifth in one and seventh in another.

The 4×200 relay of Julian Saunders, Jacob Bardsley, Ryan Desmornes and Cole Kratz combined for a 1:37.44 clocking good for qualification for the Meet of Champions. At this point in the season, Boyertown has three relay teams and one individual qualified for the MOC.

Other notable performances were those of Cameron Kratz in the mile (4:54.50), Lucas Famous in the 800 (2:34.15) and Jayden Miller in the shot put (32-8.5).
