McNeil pours in 30 as Delco Christian rallies to win

Siani McNeil exploded for 24 of her game-high 30 points after halftime as Delaware County Christian School rallied from a double-digit deficit on the road to beat Faith Christian in overtime Thursday, 62-57.

The Knights (6-4) trailed, 21-7, after the first quarter, but stormed back and were down by only six points at halftime.

DCCS coach Mark Weaver praised Alex Thompson’s defensive performance for keeping the Knights in the game.

“She was flying all over the floor like she usually does,” Weaver said.

Thompson scored a career-high 15 points to go with five steals for the Knights.

In the Del Val League:

Academy Park 44, Chichester 34 >> Shantalay Hightower did most of her scoring damage in the fourth quarter to help push the Knights to victory. Hightower had seven of her team-high 14 points in the final period for the Knights, who overcame a poor effort from the free-throw line (8-for-21).

Lauren Carrafa scored a game-high 23 points for Chi.

In another Del Val contest:

Penn Wood 72, Chester 33 >> Dahnye Redd, the No. 1 scorer in Delaware County, powered the Patriots (5-5) with 26 points, 13 rebounds, six steals and four assists. Carle Andrews (13 points), Gabrielle Hairston (11) and Joy Morton (11) also reached double figures in scoring for the Pats.

Shod’deah Kelly netted 11 points for Chester.

In nonleague action:

Marple Newtown 54, Interboro 27 >> The Tigers (3-8) came out firing in the first quarter, outscoring the visiting Bucs, 24-2. Halle Robinson scored eight of her game-high 12 points in the opening period.

Olivia Young added 11 points and Natalie Ayoub tossed in 10 for MN.

Amy Huddell and Gina McNamee netted six points apiece for the Bucs.

In the Catholic League:

Neumann-Goretti 71, Bonner-Prendergast 36 >> The Pandas (7-2) trailed by 10 after the opening period and went into the locker room at halftime down 37-16 against the reigning PIAA Class AAA champion Saints.

Nyah Garrison had eight points for the Pandas, while Maggie McPeak and Maeve McCann each added six.

In the Ches-Mont League:

Great Valley 50, Sun Valley 36 >> Kate Lannon inched closer to a special milestone. The junior scored 11 points for the Vanguards (5-7, 1-3) and is eight shy of 1,000 for her career.

Lannon’s next shot at 1,000 points is Saturday afternoon when the Vanguards host Chester.

Lauren Vitale led all Sun Valley scorers with 13 points.

In the Catholic Academies League:

Merion Mercy 47, Sacred Heart 24 >> Lauren Kilroy swished two 3-pointers and led the Lions (3-12, 0-5) with nine points. Juliana Michniak chipped in seven in defeat.

Girls Bowling

Morgan Wren’s team-high 477 series included a 188 game and Bonner & Prendergast also received a 168 game from Kerry Keenan, as the Pandas (14-10) rolled past Archbishop Ryan, 3-1, in a Catholic League match.

Boys Squash

Peter Miller, PJ Rodden, Will Glaser, Justin Shah, Sean Hughes, Will Means, Grant Sterman and Sam Turner each recorded a 3-0 sweep for Haverford School, which improved to 4-0 by blanking host Lawrenceville, 9-0, in a nonleague match.
