Delco Girls Basketball Roundup: Walsh, Notre Dame cruise past Lancaster Catholic

Casey Walsh earned player of the game honors after pouring in 26 points and hauling in six rebounds to lead Academy of Notre Dame to a 64-48 victory over state-ranked Lancaster Catholic in a Blue Chip Super Showcase contest Saturday at Harriton High.

Walsh, who is the county’s top 3-point shooter, went 12 of 13 at the free-throw line and made two shots from beyond the arc.

The Irish (12-8) blew open a three-point halftime advantage and outscored Lancaster Catholic by 13 points in the second half.

Caitlyn Mullin scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds for Notre Dame, which went to the foul line (29-for-38) early and often. Mandy McGurk and Riley Shaak added eight points apiece.

In other action from the Blue Chip Super Showcase:

Ursuline Academy (Del.) 52, Cardinal O’Hara 50 >> The Lions (12-5) lost a heartbreaker in double-overtime. All-Delco Kenzie Gardler made the game-tying basket as time expired to force a second extra session.

Gardler, who was named game MVP, scored a season-high 28 points on seven 3s. All-Delco Mary Sheehan checked in with eight points for O’Hara.

Central Bucks South 52, Episcopal Academy 41 >> Seanna McNamara paced the Churchwomen with 22 points, including three 3-pointers. McNamara took home player of the game honors. Elodie Furey netted nine points and snared eight rebounds for Episcopal (10-8).

In nonleague games:

Interboro 48, Strath Haven 29 >> The Bucs’ Amber Seamen was dropping 3-pointers left and right, scoring a game-high 23 points on a season-high seven triples. Marta Walewska poured in 17 points for Interboro (9-8).

Cayden Frazier netted seven points to lead the Panthers.

Chichester 49, Octorara 22 >> Cierra Riggs led the way for the Eagles (3-11) with a game-high 16 points. Lauren Carrafa, who made four 3s, added 15 points and Erica Brant contributed 13 to the winning effort.

Academy Park 67, Collegium Charter 31 >> The Knights exploded for 30 first-quarter points and never looked back. Elisha Hernandez had a career game with 19 points, while Shantalay Hightower (17, five 3s) and Mahya Woodton (11) also scored in double figures.

Methacton 55, Penn Wood 48 >> Following a slow start and a 14-2 deficit after the first quarter, the visiting Patriots (8-8) battled back and eventually grabbed the lead late in the third quarter. But Penn Wood missed too many high-percentage shots late in regulation and went home with a tough-luck loss.

Brianna Moore carried the Patriots by posting a near triple-double: 21 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. Carle Andrews continued her hot shooting with 15 points to go with eight rebounds and seven assists.

In the Bicentennial League:

Christian Academy 50, Plumstead Christian 23 >> Lindsay Haseltine powered the Crusaders (14-2, 8-1) with 14 points and Grace Gormley scored 12. TCA jumped out to a 20-2 lead after one quarter.
