Lannon overcomes tough defense to lead Sun Valley

Kate Lannon battled through a box-and-one defense in registering a double-double, scoring 16 of her game-high 19 points in the second half and grabbing 15 rebounds, to send Sun Valley to a 48-35 nonleague win at Avon Grove.
The victory evened the Vanguards’ overall record at 2-2.
In other nonleague action:
Garnet Valley 49, West Chester Rustin 41 >> Maddie Ireland drained three shots from beyond the arc in scoring 19, but the Jaguars (3-0) needed freshman Brianne Borcky (12 points, 10 rebounds) to sink 7 of 8 free throws down the stretch to seal the deal. Emily McAteer, another ninth-grader, rounded out the double-figure scoring with 11 points.
Gwynedd Mercy 38, Notre Dame 30 >> The Irish (2-1) suffered their first loss despite getting a dozen points and six rebounds from Katie Mayock.
Abington Friends 50, Radnor 45 >> Kristin Hamill pulled down 10 rebounds and found her shooting stroke in the second half, scoring 12 of her 14 points after intermission, but even a 20-6 third-quarter spree couldn’t overcome an early 17-point deficit.
Plymouth-Whitemarsh 45, Marple Newtown 25 >> The Tigers (1-4) fell off the pace in the second half despite Halle Robinson’s 10 points.
Cheltenham 73, Academy Park 41 >> Raven-Monet Kemper (21 points) and Trea-sure Ketter (11 points) had the hot hands for the Knights (1-3), but Cheltenham broke the game open with a 50-12 burst over the second and third quarters.
In the Delco Christian Invitational:
Delco Christian 55, Atlantic Christian 37 >> Shirley Piotrowski led all scorers with 19 points and Siani McNeil wrapped up tourney MVP honors with a 16-point effort for the Knights (2-2), who erased an early deficit behind the defense of Alex Thompson (six steals) to run away with the championship game.
Christian Academy 41, Gloucester County Christian 17 >> Lindsay Haseltine stole the ball nine times and single-handedly outscored the opposition with 18 points, and Danay Cooks-Green tossed in 11 points to earn the Crusaders (3-1) third place.
In the She Got Game Classic:
Murry Bergtraum 61, Penn Wood 58 >> Dahnye Redd poured in 34 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to keep the Patriots (1-2) close in the game played in Washington, D.C.
