Robinson’s three TDs show the way for Carroll victory

Brennan Robinson returned two kicks for touchdowns and Malachi Hansen caught five passes for 116 yards and two TDs in Archbishop Carroll’s 40-6, season-opening victory over Archbishop Ryan.

Robinson’s scored on a three-yard run in the first quarter to give the Patriots the early lead. He then had TD returns of 75 and 81 yards in the third quarter to break the game open.

Hansen hauled in touchdown passes of 13 and 61 yards from quarterback Nick Lamey, who 7 of 12 for 173 yards. Lamey was the leading rusher for the Patriots with 36 yards.

Joe Mastrangelo had a 59-yard touchdown catch for Ryan.

Carroll plays Bishop Shanahan in a nonleague contest next week.

Ephrata 23, Sun Valley 6 >> The Vanguards prepared all week to play Ches-Mont League foe Oxford, but a positive COVID-19 test by a member of the Hornets nixed those plans.

District 3 Ephrata filled the void in the Vanguards’ schedule and made the trip to Aston from Lancaster County. The Mountaineers forced seven turnovers and scored 23 unanswered points after Ty McLaughlin’s nine-yard scoring scamper put the Vanguards in front, 6-0, less than three minutes into the opening quarter.

The Vanguards (0-2) are scheduled to host Kennett next Friday.
