Mercury Roundup (10.26): Perkiomen Valley shakes up PAC with win over Upper Perk

Field Hockey

Perkiomen Valley 2, Upper Perkiomen 1 >> Julia Dowing’s third-period goal off a beautifully executed set piece proved the difference as the Vikings handed the Indians their first PAC loss Monday.

Vikings’ Saige Shine scored off an assist from Kiki Rotay, while Cristina Dougherty assisted on Dowing’s corner score. Ashlyn Gatto scored UP’s lone goal off an assist from Kylene Gooch.

PV’s Ashley Derrick saved five shots, and UP’s Lynnsi Joyce made seven saves. PV’s Chloe Miller and Julia Dowing added defensive saves.

Upper Perk (8-1-2) and Methacton (7-1-2) are now tied in the loss column and would share the PAC title if they win their remaining games. Upper Perk faces Owen J. Roberts on Wednesday, while the Warriors complete their league schedule Tuesday against PV and Wednesday against Boyertown.

Methacton 6, Spring-Ford 0 >> Alexa Kratz’s scored twice and tallied an assist in the Warriors’ PAC win Monday.

Elise DeWan, Bene Catoia, Jess Serafin and Madison Noh scored the other goals for Methacton. DeWan and Kristen Riddell added assists, while Gabby DiPrinzio chipped in three saves. Kratz (1) and DeWan (2) chipped in defensive saves.

Mackenzie Savage made six saves for the Rams.

Owen J. Roberts 4, Boyertown 1 >> Four different Wildcats scored in OJR’s PAC win Monday.

Makenna McCourt, Raina Smolij, Rylee Laloup and Maggie Kilgallon all found the back of the cage, while Kilgallon, Smolij, Emily Morrissey and Payton Hansen notched assists. Reilley Hagerty made seven saves.

Boyertown’s Remi Lloyd scored a goal and Kyle Heffentrager recorded an assist for the Bears. Sarah Yoder made 10 saves.

Girls Soccer

Methacton 3, Perkiomen Valley 0 >> Kirsten O’Brien, Aubrey Beaugard and Ruby Murray scored second-half goals in the Warriors PAC victory Monday.

Beaguard assisted on O’Brien’s goal in the 46th minute. Kendall Ricca picked up an assist on Beaguard’s goal in the 68th minute, and Murrayfinished the scoring by picking off a PV pass and finishing from 30 yards out.

Methacton goalkeeper Mairi Smith made five saves for the Warriors, while Riley Hill and Serena Davis combined for 7 saves for the Vikings.

The Warriors haven’t lost in their last six games, going 4-0-2 during that stretch.

Pope John Paul II 2, Lansdale Catholic 0 >> Lauryn Rezza scored off a cross from Audrey Moroz cross, and Cameron Schuler scored off of a beautiful pass from Sophia Hinke in the Golden Panthers’ victory Monday. Audrey Moroz and Sophia Hinke tallied assists.

Hailey Bond, who is playing for injured starting goalie Gina Marinelli, made nine saves in the rainy weather for the shutout.

Boys Cross Country

Methacton 24, Upper Perkiomen 36 >> UP’s Donny Miller edged Methacton’s Vaughn Lackman by two seconds in Monday’s meet.

Miller won the race in 16:47 followed by Lackman (16:49) and UP’s Blandon Conklin (17:22) in third. Methacton’s Chris Spletzer (17:27) and Matt Sanders (17:38) rounded out the top five. The Warriors grabbed the next five places as well to secure the meet victory.

Girls Cross Country

Methacton 17, Upper Perkiomen 40 >> Warriors’ Molly Thomas took Monday’s PAC race with a time of 21:36 and was followed by three teammates at the finish line.

Iris Gong (21:44), Bipasha Moktan (21:54) and Devon Petrei (22:04) placed second, third and fourth, respectively. UP’s Natalie Curley and Lauren Donahue finished fifth and sixth, respectively, as UP’s top finishers.
