Leonhardt leads Notre Dame’s charge past Penn Charter

Mia Leonhardt played like someone who wanted another crack at a rival Monday.

Leonhardt had a hand in seven goals as Notre Dame rolled past Penn Charter, 9-0, in the quarterfinals of the PAISAA field hockey tournament.

Leonhardt scored the first two goals of the game, then set up Riley Gillin and Vivi Trumpbour for first-half goals as the Irish (16-5-1) led by five at the break. Leonhardt deposited the first goal of the second stanza off Abby D’Anjolell’s second assist of the day, then reciprocated to D’Anjolell. Just for good measure, Leonhardt capped the scoring late.

The only non-Leonhardt goals were a pair of unassisted tallies by Sophia Amos. Gillin had a goal and an assist, and Paige Kieft made six saves in goal.

The win sets up a semifinal showdown with Episcopal Academy.
