Archbishop Carroll got two goals from Carleigh Connors, more than it needed thanks to an impenetrable defense Friday, en route to a 4-0 victory over Archbishop Wood in a Catholic League semifinal field hockey match.
Connors scored in each half. Other scorers for Carroll were Katie LaBella and Maeve Riehman. LaBella and Keri Daly each had an assist.
The defense was led by Emma Sutter and Carly Bateman, and Mary Kate Kearney had two saves for Carroll (15-4 overall, 10-0 Catholic).
The Patriots move on to the Catholic League championship game against Cardinal O’Hara, a showdown slated for Thursday at the Proving Grounds in Conshohocken.
In the other league semifinal game:
Cardinal O’Hara 2, Bonner & Prendergast 1 >> O’Hara’s Katie Shallow scored the winning goal in the second overtime as the Lions advanced to the Catholic championship game.
The defending champion Pandas, however, did not go down easily, mostly because of a fine defensive effort against an experienced Lions team.
Reagan Dolan scored for Bonner & Prendie off a corner in the first half, and she supplemented that by saving a goal in overtime to extend the game into a second extra session.
