Rehak, Zanolli shine as EA nips GA

Episcopal Academy and Germantown Academy squared off three times last year and scored a combined 26 goals in those three games.

The Churchwomen and Patriots picked up where they left off Tuesday.

Episcopal Academy needed big games from Maddie Rehak and Corinne Zanolli to get past Germantown, 5-4, in the Inter-Ac League field hockey opener for both teams. Rehak collected three goals and one assist and Zanolli added two goals to pace the two-time defending league champions.

In the Bicentennial League:

New Hope-Solebury 2, Delco Christian 0 >> Sarah Wilson tallied twice for the Lions. Goalie Ana Yee stopped 14 shots for the Knights (1-5, 1-4).

In the Central League:

Strath Haven 8, Upper Darby 1 >> Chloe Blessington paced the Panthers with two goals and one assist. Ashley Hassell and Sara McAndrews added two goals each.

Grace Muldoon had the lone goal for Upper Darby.

Garnet Valley 4, Springfield 0 >> Anna Dunn assisted on two of the three goals in the first half and tallied the lone goal in the second half for the Jaguars. Kasey Burke chipped in with one goal and one assist. Bridget Ellison made seven saves to post the shutout.

Conestoga 12, Marple Newtown 0 >> Charlotte de Vries recorded a hat trick, and Meredith Ross, Kiley Allen, Anna Mayock, Carly Ackerman and Kendall McGee chipped in with two goals each.

Harriton 3, Ridley 2 >> Katelin Williams tallied twice for the Rams including the winner in the second half with an assist from Sophia Grady.

Megan Lynch and Ashley Venit netted one goal each for Ridley (2-7, 1-3). Goalie Emma Wheeler made 18 saves.

In nonleague action:

Notre Dame 6, Hill School 2 >> The Irish spotted the Rams a 2-0 lead before coming back behind Tina D’Anjolell, Mary Kate Neff and Quinn Maguire.

D’Anjolell scored three goals, including the winner in the second half. Neff added one goal and two assists and Maguire added two assists to help Notre Dame (2-2) reach the .500 mark.
