Anna Dunn struck for a pair of goals and an assist in a five-goal second-half flurry that enabled the Garnet Valley field hockey team to pull away from Springfield, 6-0, in Central League field hockey Thursday.
Brittany Talley also finished with two goals for the Jaguars (3-7 overall, 3-2 league) and Hailey Valerio posted her first shutout without benefit of a save. On the other end, the Cougars’ Ally Scanlon kept the final score respectable with 39 stops.
In other Central League action:
Haverford High 6, Radnor 2: Hanna Breslin scored twice and set up a goal, Tess Horan chipped in a pair of assists and Waverly Datner poked home the go-ahead tally with 4 minutes, 30 seconds to go in the first half for the host Fords (5-3, 5-0).
The wildly offensive affair featured double-digit saves by Haverford’s Katie Wyman (11) and Radnor’s Kylee Rutty (16), with Lexi Kenneally accounting for both Raider scores.
Ridley 5, Harriton 1: Emily Johnston had an assist to go with her hat trick as the Green Raiders (6-2, 3-2) parlayed a fast start into an easy win.
Strath Haven 2, Upper Darby 1: Katie Capalbo and Mizuki Davis broke through for second-half goals while Caroline Boyd and Gillian Gunn split the goaltending duties, combining for four saves for the Panthers.
Erin Redden cashed in a pass from Kerianne McGee for the lone goal by the Royals (2-5, 0-5), who were buoyed by the strong defense of Danielle Hotz and eight saves from Tina Lugowski.
Lower Merion 2, Penncrest 1: Ellie Sims deposited a pass from Allison D’Ignazio with just over 4 minutes remaining to allow the Lions (1-9, 0-5) to avoid the shutout.
In the Del Val League:
Interboro 4, Academy Park 0: Rosalia Murphy (two goals, 1 assists) and Annette Helmandollar (two assists) led the way as the Bucs broke open a tight game with three second-half goals. Bridgette Pappert provided defensive support for Jess Hinchey, who was credited with the shutout despite not facing a shot on goal.
Knights’ keeper Veronica Bauman kept busy with 11 saves.
In the Ches-Mont League:
Great Valley 6, Sun Valley 0: Staci Curry came up with 19 saves and Liz Johnson turned in a solid defensive effort for the Vanguards.
In nonleague action:
Episcopal Academy 3, Tower Hill 1: A pair of goals by Margaux Paolino and a single score from Lexi Fischer made for a fun, albeit long, bus ride back for the visiting Churchmen.
