Delco Roundup: Hneleski shoots 39, O’Hara outshoots Carroll

Ava Hneleski’s outstanding effort helped the Cardinal O’Hara golf team clinch its first 10-win season in a decade Wednesday.

Hneleski’s round of 39 in the Lions’ 284-288 win over Archbishop Carroll at par-36 Pickering Valley Golf Club matched a season-best 3-over par for the junior. Her performance also included three birdies.

Anthony Carson (40) had four birdies and a par for O’Hara. Joe Wennemer chipped in with a 44.

Brady Conlon led the Patriots with a 40. Jason DiRita and Jake Johnson both finished with a 42.

Volleyball

Danielle Baker and Julia Solomon brought the offensive attack in Ridley’s 3-1 Central League victory over Springfield Wednesday.

Baker led with 15 kills and Solomon ended with 13 kills for the Green Raiders, who won by scores of 25-22, 25-13, 17-25 and 26-24.

Julianna Orr delivered 32 assists and Karlie Cecchini paced the defense with 15 digs.

Elsewhere in the Central League:

Garnet Valley 3, Marple Newtown 0 >> Maddie Wood recorded 36 assists and four aces as the Jaguars cruised past the Tigers 25-8, 25-8, 25-5. Sarah Wood pitched in with 13 kills and two aces, while Klaira Zakarain added seven kills. Morgan Murray excelled on defense for GV (8-1, 5-0).

Penncrest 3, Upper Darby 0 >> Liz Kurcon’s eight kills and 10 digs powered the Lions to a 25-7, 25-18, 25-7 sweep of the Royals.

Lilly Kirkpatrick (seven digs) and Morgan Gibson each tallied five kills. Maddy Bachovchin dished out 16 assists and two aces.

Strath Haven 3, Radnor 2 >> Gigi Fiordimondo racked up 33 assists, 18 digs and four aces as the Panthers won in five sets over the Raptors 24-26, 26-11, 24-26, 25-17, 15-13.

Lauren McGinn totaled 17 kills and 10 digs for Haven. Jillian Surkis added 13 kills and 15 digs, Ameila Andrews-Sullivan registered 10 kills and seven blocks, and Aislin O’Neill tallied 25 digs.

In the Inter-Ac League:

Germantown Academy 3, Agnes Irwin 1 >> Priya Johnson piled up 10 kills, two blocks and 22 assists, but the Owls fell to the Patriots 23-25, 23-25, 25-20 and 22-25. Ella Zwilling and Sydney Chen recorded 39 and 37 digs, respectively.

Field Hockey

Sienna Golden exploded for seven goals as Archbishop Carroll remained unbeaten in the Catholic League with an 18-0 rout of Little Flower.

Cate McConaghy (three assists), Laura Wineburg (one assist), Bridget Grazel and Megan Sheridan all scored twice for the Patriots (4-3, 3-0).

In nonleague action:

Episcopal Academy 3, Villa Maria 2 >> Charly Bruder, Caroline Powell and Paige McMeekin each netted a goal for the Churchwomen. Alexis Ventresca had two assists.

Sacred Heart 3, Mt. Calvary 2 >> Emily McKenna led the Lions with 18 kills and 12 digs. Annie Corcoran supplied 38 assists, seven kills and three aces.

Boys Soccer

Eddie Jones tallied a goal and an assist in Episcopal Academy’s 3-2 decision over Lawrenceville (N.J.).

Gautam Ketkar and Garrett Wahl also found the back of the net.

Girls Soccer

First-half goals by Carly Coleman and Lily Marquis lifted Cardinal O’Hara past Interboro, 2-1, in nonleague action.

Kaelynn DiEnnis finished with six saves in net for the Lions.

Molly Hughes scored for the Bucs and goalie Sarah Kerr made 10 saves.

Girls Tennis

Samma Zahran, Jordan Graney and Sophia Bora all won their singles matches as Cardinal O’Hara defeated Haverford, 5-2.

Maggie Ingles and Iris Simkins claimed a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 victory at fourth doubles for the Fords.

Central Bucks South 6, Garnet Valley 1 >> Anita Fard Sanei and Sonali Thakkar were triumphant at third doubles for the Jaguars.

Conestoga 6, Radnor 1 >> In a Central League match Tuesday, Mia Xie was a 7-6 (5), 6-2 winner at No. 2 singles for the Raptors.
