Mercury Roundup (April 29): Halfpenny stifles Phoenixville in Methacton baseball’s 4-2 win

Methacton 4, Phoenixville 2 >> Graham Halfpenny surrendered just two runs on three hits over seven innings, striking out eight and the Warriors won their third straight Thursday.

Methacton’s four runs were the most any team has scored on the Phantoms (5-1 PAC Frontier, 8-2 PAC) this spring.

Mike Lamalfa went 3-for-3 at the plate and stole three bases for Methacton (2-4 Liberty, 6-4 PAC). Halfpenny helped his own cause with an RBI single in the second inning, followed by a Kross Howarth RBI double for a 2-0 lead. Methacton added two more runs in the 3rd for a 4-0 lead.

Phoenixville managed single runs in the fourth and sixth inning. Luke Seldes led Phoenixville with two hits.

Perkiomen Valley 16, Pope John Paul II 1 >> The Vikings used a balanced offense and a dominant display of the face off X to roll past their PAC visitors Thursday night.

Junior attack Matt Farrington had four goals and one assist while senior Sam Nice added another four goals to the effort as Jacob Klosinski (three) and Chuck McCue combined for four saves. The faceoff trio of junior Dallas Pulliam and sophomores Colin and Noah Delo went a combined 19 for 21 on the night.

PJP’s lone goal was scored by Ambrose Collilouri.
