Sun Valley boys get stingy, streak hits seven

Sun Valley has gotten it done in a lot of ways in its season-opening winning streak. Add “via the defensive end” to the list Thursday.

Vinny DeAngelo scored 15 points and Marvin Freeman added 12, but the defense that limited Oxford to just two points after halftime fueled a 53-14 victory for the Vanguards.

Jarad Owens and Isaac Kennon tallied eight points each for the Vanguards (7-0, 3-0).

In the Central League:

Garnet Valley 64, Upper Darby 61 >> Neel Beniwal scored eight of his 24 points in the third quarter as the Jaguars (4-1, 3-1) opened up an 11-point lead and hung on late. Greg Vlassopoulos added 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Carl Schaller scored 10 points for GV.

Upper Darby got a career-high 31 points from Mamadou Toure. Shareef Jones added 11, but the Royals (2-3, 2-2) made only nine two-pointers to complement 11 threes.

In the Catholic League:

Bonner & Prendergast 77, Conwell-Egan 49 >> Isaiah Wong scored 24 points, Tariq Ingraham added 16 and Mike Perretta hit three 3-pointers for nine points as the Friars (5-0, 2-0) erased all doubt via a 29-13 edge in the third quarter.

Archbishop Wood 88, Cardinal O’Hara 63 >> Adrian Irving scored 14 points, and Solo Bambarra and Tre Dinkins added 13 each, but the Lions were outpaced, 25-6, in the fourth quarter.

In nonleague action:

Episcopal Academy 73, Lincoln 58 >> Alex Capitano scored his 1,000th career point, the reclassified junior transfer from Great Valley going off for a game-high 22 to lead EA.

Matt Dade added 20 points, and Colin Chambers splashed home three 3-pointers for 16 points for EA.

Academy Park 61, Council Rock South 55 >> Tariq Marrero hit four 3-pointers to tally a team-best 17 points, and big 3-pointers late in the fourth quarter from Derrick Northern and Naseim Harley gave AP all the scoring it needed.

Shermik Lofton scored 11 points to go with seven rebounds. Marrero added five assists and five rebounds, Jalen Cassidy scored 10 points and Harley tallied eight for the Knights (4-0).

Penn Wood 61, Bartram 55 >> Davante Smith scored 10 of his 17 points in the first half, and Antonio Campbell tallied 15 points to lead Penn Wood (3-2) to the win.

Haverford 55, Hill School 50 >> Christian Ray scored 25 points and Tyler Seward added 14 as the Fords (8-0) remained unbeaten.

Chester Charter School for the Arts 58, New Foundations Charter 46 >> Devonte Morris scored 12 points, and Bruce Rogers and Damir Baez added 11 each as the Sabers spread the scoring burden around.

Jamihy Evans scored 10 points, and Davon Stovall tossed in three triples for nine for CCSA (5-2).

Brandywine 70, Chichester 67 >> Josh Hankins scored 18 points, including two of three from the line with 0.4 seconds left to send the game to overtime, but the Eagles couldn’t come up with the win.

Jamese Lundy-Byrd scored 14 points, Calvin Church paired 13 points with six rebounds and Jasir Shaw chipped in 10 points for Chichester (1-5).

Kennett 59, Interboro 40 >> Damon Dukes scored 18 points and Jared Dellipriscoli added 12, but the Bucs couldn’t recover after falling behind 13 points after one quarter.

Church Farm 60, Glen Mills 43 >> Nafis Smith scored eight of his 17 points in the fourth quarter, but the Battlin’ Bulls (1-6) fell.
