The Haverford School has officially announced the appointment of former Archbishop Ryan coach Bernie Rogers as its new varsity boys basketball coach. The appointment, which includes a position as a physical education teacher, becomes effective Aug. 1.

Rogers was 212-148 at Ryan dating to 2000. He was named Philadelphia Catholic League coach of the year in 2001 and was inducted this year into the school’s Basketball Hall of Fame.

“I am really excited about the opportunity to teach and coach at The Haverford School,’ he said in a statement. “It will be a great opportunity for me professionally and personally.’

According to Haverford School athletic director John Nostrant, Rogers “fits the fabric and mission of the school; we’re excited to have him.’
