Reporter/Times Herald Basketball Roundup (Feb. 3): Penn Charter hands GA 1st Inter-Ac loss since 2016

Penn Charter 64, Germantown Academy 60 >> Aleah Snead scored a game-best 26 points as Penn Charter outscored Germantown Academy 21-5 in the fourth quarter to erase as 12-point deficit and end the Patriots’ 46-game Inter-Ac win streak in the season opener for both teams.

Jessica Moore had 15 points, five assists and three rebounds while Jessica Aponik finished with 15 points and four assists for GA (0-1, 0-1). Kendall Bennett added a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds while Sam Wade had 12 points and four rebounds.

Germantown Academy’s last Inter-Ac loss came at Episcopal Academy 56-49 on Dec. 13, 2016. The Patriots won their last 10 league games that season then posted perfect 12-0 marks the next three years.

Bella Toomey scored 11 points for Penn Charter (1-0, 1-0) with Kaitlynn Hnatkowsky tallying 10 points.

GA led 38-33 at halftime and pushed its advantage to 55-43 at the end of the third.

Plymouth Whitemarsh 71, Hatboro-Horsham 23 >> Anna McTamney collected a game-high 20 points as Plymouth Whitemarsh rolled in the SOL Liberty matchup to stay undefeated.

Kaitlyn Flanagan chipped in 11 points for the Colonials (5-0, 3-0), who visit fellow unbeaten Upper Dublin Friday.

Hatboro-Horsham, which had its two-game win streak snapped, dropped to 3-4 (1-4 division).

Boys Basketball

Jenkintown 59, Faith Christian 54 >> Rona McCall went 6-for-6 from beyond the 3-point arc in finishing with game-high 18 points as Jenkintown held off a late charge from Faith Christian Wednesday to remain undefeated.

Jadan Welch tallied 13 points while Will Krinvic and Iman Jackson eached added 10 points for the Drakes (5-0), who led 34-16 at halftime. Down 13 after three quarters, Faith Christian (4-4) outscored Jenkintown 21-13 but could not make the double-digit comeback and had its three-game win streak stopped.

Chris Evans paced FCA with 16 points.

Abington 55, Wissahickon 46 >> Rob Bell scored 24 points while Oreck Frazier finished with 15 as Abington claimed a fourth-straight victory in the SOL Liberty Division matchup.

Matt Compas had a game-high 26 points for Wissahickon (6-4, 3-3), who had a two-game win streak snapped. Abington improved to 4-2 overall (4-2 division).

Plymouth Whitemarsh 76, Hatboro-Horsham 30 >> Luke DiCianno registered 19 points as Plymouth Whitemarsh cruised to an SOL Liberty win.

Jaden Colzie and Stephen Forchielli both added 10 points for the Patriots (9-0, 7-0). Hatboro-Horsham fell to 2-4 (2-4 division).
