Dock falls to Executive Education in PIAA-3A play-in game

ALLENTOWN >> Dock Mennonite’s grit was embodied by Roman Kuhn, who never let up defensively against one of Executive Education’s most potent weapons, Jevin Muniz.

“I was proud of how we played,” Pioneers coach Mike Fergus said. “Roman was all over (Muniz) and just made every shot tough. He guarded him like a blanket. And he’s giving up eight inches and 15 pounds to that kid. I saluted (Roman) for his defense.

“The problem with that team is they have too many weapons. They have too many guys who can score.”

The District 11 Champs combined their efforts and pulled away to a 67-44 victory over the Pioneers in a PIAA-3A Play-in Game Wednesday night.

Dock saw a tremendous season come to a close at 12-9.

“We competed, and this is essentially a very young team,” said Fergus, who guided the Pioneers back to the playoffs again. “We weren’t used to that level of speed and athleticism.”

It was in the second quarter that the Raptors began to make their move.

Kobe Magee got to the line three times and had nine points in the first half as Executive built a 12-point lead by the break.

“He’s really good. He scores in a variety of ways,” Fergus said. “He scores on putbacks, drives to the basket, and he can hit a shot. That team has a lot of pieces.”

Magee would finish with 17 points for the Raptors, who advance to a state quarterfinal matchup on Saturday.

Jeremiah Bembry had 15 for Executive and Muniz was tied for the game high with Dock’s Steve Martin with 18.

The Raptors extended their lead to 17 points by the end of the third quarter and held firm.

Fergus praised seniors Martin and Mahamod Camara and the team’s effort as a whole.

Nathan Lapp added 12 points for Dock, including a pair of threes.

“Good things are in the future,” Fergus said. “We’ll be back.”
