Mulvaney, Jenkintown roll past Calvary Baptist in District 1-A quarters
TOWAMENCIN — Jenkintown’s run began in the second quarter Thursday night and it will continue right into the district semifinals.
Forcing turnovers in bunches and scoring well in transition, the fifth-seeded Drakes pulled away to a 65-36 win over fourth-seeded Calvary Baptist in a District One Class A quarterfinal game at Calvary.
“We were trying to spread it around, get everyone involved and get everyone ready for the next game,’ said the Drakes’ Colin Mulvaney, who led a balanced Jenkintown attack with a game-high 21 points.
Jenkintown advances to face the winner of the Phil-Mont Christian-Friends Select matchup, Tuesday night at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School.
Calvary, behind the inside play of Donald Miller, jumped out to a 10-7 lead early, but the Drakes built a 17-10 advantage by the end of the first quarter and blew the game open in the second.
“We just started finishing in transition,’ Mulvaney said. “In the first quarter, we missed a lot of chippies, a lot of layups, but we just started finishing.’Mulvaney scored eight points in the second quarter, including a three, while sleek Jameson Kolb kept finding ways to the basket, putting in nine-first half points to help Jenkintown stretch the margin to 16 points by halftime.
