Mercury Roundup (Jan. 3): Boyertown boys basketball holds off Perkiomen Valley, 39-38

Boyertown 39, Perkiomen Valley 38 >> The Bears held off the Vikings’ late charge Friday, getting by with a narrow victory in their PAC Liberty Division matchup.

Aarick Salata hit 7-of-8 free throws on the way to 15 for the night, and Chris Kiefer had eight points in helping Boyertown survive PV’s 27-21 second-half advantage. The Vikes got double-figure offense from Tyler Lapetina — his 16 markers bolstered by four three-point shots — and Kameron Parks with 11.

Methacton 68, Norristown 48 >> Brett Eberly headed a balanced offense that secured victory for the Warriors in Friday’s PAC Liberty Division game with the Eagles.

Eberly collected 16 points, one more than teammate Erik Timko’s 15, Jeff Woodward and Owen Kropp both chipped in 13, and Ryan Baldwin added nine points.

Girls basketball

Boyertown 47, Perkiomen Valley 34 >> The Bears led wire-to-wire over the Vikings in Friday’s PAC Liberty Division game.

Ashley Kapp had 18 points for Boyertown — 12 off shots from 3-point range — to go with four assists. PV was headed by Naiya Daisey, who collected nine of her 12 points from long distance.

Methacton 59, Norristown 16 >> The Warriors combined potent offense and stingy defense Friday as they rolled over the Eagles in PAC Liberty Division action.

Nicole Timko had 17 points to lead a trio of double-figure performers that included Sydney Tornetta (15 points), who completed a double-double by pulling down 11 rebounds; and Sydney Hargrove (12). Cassidy Kropp added nine points and six assists while the Warrior “D” blanked Norristown in the third quarter, allowing its hosts only four points in the second half.

Fleetwood 53, Daniel Boone 29 >> Alexis Hess scored 11 points to lead the Tigers over the Blazers in Friday’s Berks Conference action.
Boone’s leading scorer was Allyson Velez with seven points.

Coatesville 67, Pottstown 46 >> Danae Ellzy led the Raiders with 24 points in Friday’s non-league win over the Trojans.

Jayda Vaughan added 12 for Coatesville while Trinell Watson gave Pottstown a game-high 26 points, 15 of them off long-distance shots.

Boys swimming

Methacton 97, Phoenixville 79 >> Tommy Gibbs figured in on four of the Warriors’ first-place finishes Friday as they outswam the Phantoms in PAC action.

Gibbs topped the 200 IM (2:06,17) and 100 fly (54.76) while swimming legs of Methacton’s winning 200 medley (1:43.43) and 400 free (3:28.21) relays. Jack Hussin won two individual events for Phoenixville, heading the 200 free (1:48.74) and 500 free (5:03.43).

Girls swimming

Phoenixville 107, Methacton 69 >> The Pappases contributed to a combined seven event wins for the Phantoms in Friday’s PAC meet with the Warriors.

Penelope Pappas took the 200 free (2:06.20) and 100 fly (1:02.81) while Erini Pappas did the same in the 200 IM (2:14.16) and 100 back (59.97); they also helped Phoenixville sweep the 200 medley (1:57.36), 200 free (1:47.15) and 400 free (4:10.52) relays.
