Mercury Roundup (Jan. 20): OJR’s Fryer, Phoenixville’s Kuranda have big nights in PAC Crossover wins

BOYS BASKETBALL

Owen J. Roberts 62, Upper Perkiomen 49

Highlights: Luke Fryer hit the nets for a game-high 23 points, one of three double-figure scorers that propelled the Wildcats past the Indians in their PAC divisional crossover game.

Complementing Fryer’s offense were Jake Bolyn and Tyler Rossi with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Kyle Clancy led the way for UP with his 11-point effort.

Phoenixville 59, Boyertown 38

Highlights: Jackson Kuranda poured in a season-high 26 points to guide the Phantoms to a PAC Crossover win over the Bears on Thursday. Zavier Mayo added 16 points, and Gabe Massenburg pulled in 10 rebounds. Eddie Higgins (12) and Jake Kapp (10) both reached double figures for the Bears.

Perkiomen Valley 79, Pottstown 46

Highlights: The Vikings’ balanced offense produced four players in double figures Thursday, enabling them to handle the Trojans in PAC divisional crossover action.

Josh Pelzer and Julian Sadler had matching 11s for PV, with Vance Sadler and Danny Koehler adding 10 apiece. Gage Sibley had a game-high 20 points for Pottstown.

Spring-Ford 43, Upper Merion 37

Highlights: A 23-11 scoring edge in the middle frames enabled the Rams to erase the Vikings’ early lead and pull off victory in their PAC divisional crossover outing.

Gavin Schauder headed Spring-Ford’s offense with 15 points. It gave him game scoring honors ahead of UM’s Kalil Lawson’s 13.

Methacton 55, Pope John Paul II 51

Highlights: The Warriors (14-0) used strong second and fourth quarters to secure victory over the Golden Panthers in their PAC divisional crossover game — Methacton’s closest league test to date.

Cole Hargrove led the way with 21 points, and Brett Byrne added 13 to the Methacton offense. That negated PJP’s trio of double-figure scorers headed by J.P. Baron’s 20.

Norristown 63, Pottsgrove 55

Highlights: Though Gabe Rinda came away with game scoring honors for the Falcons, the Eagles made a fast start hold up for victory in PAC divisional crossover action.

Rinda’s 18-point outing was complemented by 10 points from Nadhir Ward. Zaki Gomez scored 17 to lead Norristown, which built a 23-11 lead in the first half.

Perkiomen School National 108, Lawrenceville 75

Highlights: Xaivian Lee ‘22 led the Panthers with 19 points, while Thomas Haugh ‘23 set the standard defensively, tallying a handful of blocks to go along with his 18 points, as the Panthers earned a decisive victory Thursday.

Preist Ryan ‘23 scored 16 points off the bench, and Bobby Rosenberger ‘23 and Sam Pohlman ‘22 rounded out the scoring with 15 and 10 points, respectively.

Phelps School 92, Perkiomen School Varsity 73

Highlights: The Panthers had four players reach double figures but couldn’t keep up with Phelps in Thursday’s loss. Jake Okon ‘22 had 15 points, Christian Weddington ‘22 chipped in 14, Kuzey Ercan ‘23 netted 13 and Cyriac Putthusery ‘22 rounded out Perk’s double-digit scorers with 12.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Norristown 58, Pottsgrove 41

Highlights: Azjiona Gholston hit the nets for a game-high 23 points Thursday, lifting the Eagles over the Falcons in PAC divisional crossover action.

Aaliyah Freeman was high scorer for Pottsgrove with 20.

Highlights: Madison Konnick and Carlie Schweizer combined to outscore the entire Phantom lineup in the Bears’ PAC divisional crossover game.

Konnick gave Boyertown a game-high 18 points while Schweizer added another 12. Maliyah Warren gave Phoenixville a team-high 10 points.

Highlights: The Vikings put the hammer down in the second quarter and all 11 players scored in a PAC crossover win Thursday. Jennifer Beattie (15), Julia Smith (12) and Quinn Boettinger (12) were in double figures for PV. PAC leading scorer Trinell Watson had 19 of Pottstown’s 28 points.

Highlights: Perkiomen School’s Girls Varsity team defeated New Foundations, running its current win streak to 10.

Lauren Patnode led all scorers with 26 points. Draining all three of her 3PFGs in the first half. Brigid Scanlon finished with 12 points on the night. Raychel Dunn and Jade Marquez both chipped in 11 helpful points as well.
