Council Rock North boys basketball bests Pennsbury

FAIRLESS HILLS – Council Rock North became the latest Suburban One National League rival to slay the dragon that has been Pennsbury boys basketball the past few seasons.

Trailing 23-21 at the half, the Indians outscored the Falcons 13-9 in the third quarter and won the game, 50-48. CR North senior Riley Thompson led all scorers with 23 points. Classmates Will Desautelle and Tyler Nowmos chipped in with 13 and nine points respectively.

Eleven of Desautelle’s points came after the intermission and seven were scored in the fourth quarter.

For the Indians, it is their third straight league win and third victory in the last four games.

For the faltering Falcons, who made it to states the past two years while going to the PIAA quarterfinals in 2015, it is their fourth loss in the past five games and second straight against an SOL opponent. Pennsbury has also dropped recent matchups with CR South and Abington.

North used a zone defense to shut out 6-8 Falcons junior forward Mark Flagg (8 pts.) in the second half.

Pennsbury junior Addison Howard led the Falcons with 11 points while senior Rob Daly chipped in with 10 and classmate Mike Alley had seven. Junior Tyler Sessa-Reeves also score seven points for Pennsbury.

The Indians (8-8, 6-3 SOL) play Harry S Truman 7 p.m. Thursday night while the Falcons (10-6, 6-3 SOL) travel to Bensalem for a 7 p.m. tipoff.

North lost to the Tigers in an earlier season matchup while Pennsbury got past the Owls in the first pairing between the schools.
