Christopher Dock rallies for OT win over Plumstead Christian in District 1-A quarters

PLUMSTEAD TWP. — Shane Curry appeared to have put the dagger in the Christopher Dock boys basketball team’s season.

Curry’s three-pointer from the wing — his seventh in Friday night’s District 1-A quarterfinal — extended the lead of host Plumstead Christian to 11 midway through the fourth quarter. But Pioneers coach Mike Fergus was sure there was one more run in his side.

“We have the ability to spurt all year long. And I told them at halftime, we’ll have a run,” he said. “We always have a run, sometimes multiple runs.”

Seventh-seeded Dock indeed  came up with a burst when it absolutely needed to, outscoring the No. 2 Panthers 15-4 the rest of the fourth to force overtime, then collecting the first eight points of the extra period to claim a 68-63 comeback victory.

“We just had to keep hustling, keep working. We’ve been down a lot of times in the beginning of the season where we had to come back in the fourth quarter down 15, down 12,” Dock’s Tarrell Willis said. “We came up short a lot of times, so this time we made sure that we got the shots we needed to take, got people the ball where they could score and played defense.

“Defense was the key tonight. We got stops when we needed it.”

Dock forced a handful of turnovers as Plumstead Christian tried to burn time off the clock, while Willis and Brennan Addley provided key points late for the Pioneers, who advance to face third-seeded Delco Christian in the district semifinals 6 p.m. Wednesday at Plymouth Whitemarsh.
