Reporter Baseball Roundup: Upper Moreland tops Hatboro-Horsham for 4th straight win

Kevin Davis went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs as the Upper Moreland baseball team extended its winning streak to four Tuesday afternoon, jumping out to an early 5-0 lead to knock off SOL American Conference leader Hatboro-Horsham 6-2.

The Golden Bears (6-4, 5-4 conference) loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the first inning and proceeded to score three runs on a Davis RBI single and walks to Garrett Garofolo and Connor English.

Davis pushed UM’s lead to five with his two-RBI double in the top of the second.

Bradan Mallon hit a solo home run to left in the bottom of the second for the Hatters (11-4, 8-2), who had a two-game win streak snapped. Hatboro-Horsham is now tied for first in the American with Plymouth Whitemarsh. 

Each team added a run in the seventh.

Jack Dombrowski and Ben Paul both scored twice for the Bears. UM starting pitcher Greg Wiley got the win, giving up two runs — one earned — on four hits, walked one and struck out six in 6 2/3 innings.

North Penn 4, Central Bucks East 0 >> Left-hander Joe Valenti threw a five-hit shutout while Jake Drelick and Alex Gilbert both had two hits as North Penn stopped a two-game losing skid.

Valenti struck out three and did not allow a walk for the Knights (6-7, 4-4 SOL Continental). Drelick finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs with Alex Gilbert going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

North Penn took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth on Gilbert’s RBI single. The Knights extended the advantage with three runs in the sixth on a pinch-hit RBI single from Alex Kree and Drelick’s two-RBI single.

Upper Dublin 12, Collegium Charter 0 >> Tyler Lizell was 2-for-2 with two RBIs, Justin Richmond went 2-for-4 with a run scored and Upper Dublin rolled to a non-league win to end a two-game losing streak.

Adam Overton, Sam Frezel and Grant Gill combined to pitch a two-hit shutout for the Cardinals (8-6, 5-4 SOL American). UD scored nine runs in the last four innings, getting four in the top of the fifth and three in the seventh.

Jacob Womelsdorf hit a double and collected two RBIs and two run scored while Shana Monaghan had a triple and scored twice.
