Marple Newtown, Conestoga share Central League crown

To win at least a share of the Central League baseball title, all Marple Newtown had to do Monday was beat Strath Haven.

Cameron Mathes made sure the Tigers did not squander the opportunity.

Mathes went the distance and drove in two runs to help the Tigers grab a piece of the crown with a 5-1 victory over the Panthers.

Conestoga knocked off Upper Darby twice to share the championship with Marple Newtown.

Mathes allowed six hits, fanned 11 and walked three. Alden Mathes, Ricky Collings, Corey Woodcock and Brian Reynolds added one hit and one run scored each.

Anthony Viggio had two hits for Strath Haven.

In other Central League action:

Radnor 10, Penncrest 5 >> Will Hoysgaard struck out six and allowed two runs in five innings for his third win of the season. Hoysgaard also went 3-for-5 as the Raiders (9-9, 7-9) smashed a season-high 17 hits.

Andrew Austen paced the attack with four hits, three RBIs and two runs scored. Matt Schaefer was 2-for-5 with three RBIs and Connor Wilson added two hits, three runs scored and two RBIs.

Sam Freedman had three hits and two runs scored for Penncrest.

Garnet Valley 6, Lower Merion 0 >> Mike Bechtold allowed four hits, whiffed 10 and did not walk a batter in seven solid innings for the Jaguars.

Liam Bendo, Mason Miller, Matt Burba and Alex Fisher drove in one run each. Matt Lupoli added two hits and one run scored.

Harriton 5, Springfield 1 >> Jack Herman’s two-run double in the bottom of the fourth inning ignited a four-run rally that put the Rams ahead to stay. Third baseman Nick Gorman went 2-for-3 for the Cougars (12-6, 10-6).

Conestoga 14, Upper Darby 4 >> The Pioneers broke it open with four runs in the top of the third inning and sealed the victory with seven runs an inning later.

Mike Peters had two of Upper Darby’s five hits. He also scored once. The Pioneers won the completion of a suspended game, 16-6.

In the Ches-Mont League

Octorara 12, Sun Valley 3 >> The Braves scored in every inning but the second. Christian Batemen went 3-for-4 and scored twice to pace the Vanguards (6-13). Jeremy Russo added a double and an RBI.

In the Del Val League:

Academy Park 14, Glen Mills 0 >> Michael Brodzinski hit for the cycle to back the one-hit pitch of Taylor Moors.

Brodzinski drove in four runs and scored twice. Sal Piccone added two hits including a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Moors struck out 12 and did not walk a batter in five innings.

Interboro 16, Chester 6 >> Noah Brisach based a home run and drove in three runs to help the Bucs (17-0 overall, 15-0 Del Val) finish the league season undefeated. Billy Ketler added three hits including a double and two RBIs. C.J. Cardell clubbed a two-run double and Dante Milver was 2-for-3 with three runs scored.

Tyrone Johnson ripped three-run triple for the Clippers.

In the Bicentennial League:

Plumstead Christian 8, Delco Christian 0 >> The Knights were shutout on four hits by Plumstead ace Brock Hewitt. Jack Grim had a double and two walks, and Cody Moorehatch added a single and a double for DC (10-6).
